Article of the Month June 2005. Annular Skin Lesions in Childhood Five Common Entities. Mirta Caminero, Ana M. Duarte. Abstract
http://int-pediatrics.org/
IP CME Click Here Home Current Issue Early Release ... E-Abstracts Article of the Month - June 2005 Annular Skin Lesions in Childhood: Five Common Entities Mirta Caminero, Ana M. Duarte Abstract The term annular derives from the Latin word annulus, meaning ring. When confronted with a ring-shaped lesion, our instinct is to make an immediate diagnosis of tinea corporis (ringworm). However, the differential diagnosis of annular lesions is, in reality, quite extensive. In this article we will review five of the most common dermatosis presenting an annular pattern. The diagnosis of these entities can often be based on clinical features alone. Careful attention should be directed to historical details: onset, duration of individual lesions and any local or systemic symptoms. When a diagnosis cannot be done on clinical grounds alone, a biopsy specimen should be obtained as well as skin cultures or other laboratory evaluation.
