This 30 acre site is many gardens in one. The outdoor display gardens include a Japanese garden, rose garden, herb garden, bog garden, vegetable gardens and more. The Upper Woodland features plants native to the southeastern United States. There is a 1.25 mile-long nature trail (not wheel chair accessible) through Storza Woods, one of the last remaining hardwood forests in Atlanta. Home to rare and endangered plants, the Dorothy Chapman Fuqua Conservatory features orchids and a collection of poison-arrow frogs. A video is mailed to teachers to use before their scheduled visit with classes as a pre-visit activity. The garden features speakers and special programs. Birdsong Nature Center
2106 Meridian Road, Thomasville, GA 31792 (912) 377-4408

Birdsong Nature Center offers natural history instruction with intensive field experience for school groups and the public. A series of 30 nest boxes are placed in appropriate habitats along Birdsong Trail, and are maintained and monitored throughout the year for bluebird activity and nesting success. Designed to teach people how to identify and appreciate native birds, Bird Window has become the most fascinating attraction in Birdsong Nature Center. A large glass pane extends from floor to ceiling and from wall to wall, and overlooks a bird feeding station. Gardens around the house have been planted and landscaped to attract birds and other wildlife. The Listening Place is a pavilion overlooking Bog Bay Swamp where herons, anhingas, wood ducks, alligators and other wildlife can be observed.

Yet the population tripled under the Tudors, and by 1700, it had passed a half million, ranking with Paris and Naples as one of Europe’s three largest cities. When Edward VII ascended the throne in 1901, London was the largest city in the world, and it remains Europe’s largest.

Bank of England Museum
Also known as the “Old Lady of Threadneedle Street Museum,” the Bank of England Museum tracks the bank’s history from 1694 to its current role as the nation’s central bank. Gold bars date from ancient times, and pikes and muskets used to defend the bank are also on display. History includes a mob attack on the Bank during the Gordon riots in 1780, and the introduction of paper money in 1797. Some documents relate to well-known customers including George Washington and the Duchess of Marlborough. In March, 2003, the museum welcomed its one-millionth visitor.

Stanley Park , Vancouver's first, is an evergreen oasis of 1,000 acres close to the heart of Vancouver's downtown core. Its natural west coast atmosphere offering a back drop of majestic cedar, hemlock and fir trees embraces visitors and transports them to an environment rich in tranquility. The park abounds in wildlife and its features appeal to the naturalist, the plant lover or one who would do nothing more than relax in beautiful surroundings. The Nature House, located on Lost Lagoon's south side, offers educational materials as well as seasonal walking tours. Lost Lagoon is the haven for many varieties of birds including swans, ducks and Canada geese. The rushes and small islands in the lake make a natural nesting place for the various species that live here..

Weeki Wachee Springs In the late 1800s, unique tourist attractions emerged along the state's highways and, luckily for the nostalgic traveler, many remain open to this day.
1878 - Silver Springs (Ocala) began a glass bottom boat service.
Famous for being "Florida's original attraction", Hullam Jones began his passenger glass bottom boat service, which provided visitors with the opportunity to gaze down through the crystal clear waters at the aquatic life below the surface. www.silversprings.com
1893 - St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park (St. Augustine) was established.

The BioPark consists of three separate facilities, the Rio Grande Zoological Park, the Albuquerque Aquarium and the Rio Grande Botanic Garden. The Rio Grande Zoo sits on more than 60 acres just blocks from Old Town and downtown Albuquerque. The Rio Grande Zoo has become one of the leading zoos in the nation. Modern zoo medicine, scientifically researched diets, naturalized habitats and specialized animal management techniques have helped transform the zoo into an oasis for both exotic and native species. In keeping with its mission of wildlife preservation, conservation and education, the zoo has established captive breeding programs for a number of threatened and endangered species. In addition to a top-notch education program and year round classes, the zoo also offers an outstanding summer concert series. At the Albuquerque Aquarium, visitors follow the story of a drop of water as it enters the upper Rio Grande high in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, past canyons, deserts and valleys of New Mexico, Texas and Mexico, through the lower Rio Grande and finally into the Gulf of Mexico. A 285,000 gallon shark tank with floor to ceiling viewing windows is the home of many large Gulf sharks. An eel cave gives visitors the opportunity to see moray eels and a tidal pool demonstrates the effects of the tide on beaches and the animals that live just below the surface.
