Created 2005; Updated 20 May 2005 Living in San Antonio Even though San Antonio is the eighth largest city in the United States, we have retained our sense of history and tradition, while carefully blending in cosmopolitan progress. San Antonio has always been a crossroads and a meeting place. Sounds and flavors of Native Americans, Old Mexico, Germans, the Wild West, African-Americans and the Deep South mingle and merge. Close to twenty million visitors a year delight in the discovery of San Antonio's charms. San Antonio offers a wonderful array of attractions to fill your days and nights with entertainment, exploration, education and just plain fun! Our city beckons visitors with history, romance, sports, family fun, adventure and the arts. The Gulf coast is only 100 miles away. Working ranches throughout Central and South Texas are available as hunting leases for wild game, while dude ranches offer a taste of the Old West, complete with horseback riding. Numerous state parks offer opportunities for hiking in the rugged terrain of the Hill Country.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 22, 2003 GOVERNOR PATAKI ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR NYC AND WESTCHESTER ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS Projects Encourage Community Involvement, Stewardship, Protection and Education
Governor George E. Pataki today announced 65 grants totaling $771,907 to organizations in New York City and Westchester County that encourage community involvement in environmental protection and education. The grants, supported by the New York City Environmental Fund, will help organizations promote active community stewardship of urban shorelines, waterways, parklands, and open spaces. "By working together to protect our State's environment, our efforts can have a significant and lasting impact for all New Yorkers," Governor Pataki said. "These important projects will help educate urban communities about their surroundings and promote the conservation of precious natural resources throughout the metro region." New York City Environmental Fund projects foster restoration, care and public enjoyment of natural resources in New York City and designated parts of Westchester County. Prior to today's announcement, the Environmental Fund has supported more than 300 projects. Award recipients include schools, education groups, museums, government agencies, aquariums, and botanical gardens, among other community organizations, and will each receive between $5,000 and $35,000. The grants are administered by the State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the Hudson River Foundation.
