Parenting Tips: Teach kids Responsibility
Getting a child to cooperate can be fun. Family counsels are a fun way to teach responsibility. Information on educating your family while getting chores done.
Life is much easier in a family when there is a spirit of cooperation. Cooperation has been defined as a willingness to develop and live by the consensus of a family or group. There are basic principles and ideas that can help instill within your child a desire to cooperate. Many families function in a highly fast paced environment and the opportunities that many children have today to play meaningful roles within their family are fewer than ever before. Children need a sense of having a meaningful part in the functioning of their family. They need to feel a spirit of cooperation. Here are some ideas that will help. Effort needs to be made so that the child feels like he is contributing to the betterment and welfare of the family. Whenever possible, include children in family decisions. All people have a desire to feel worthwhile and important. Nobody wants to be told what to do all of the time. Children love to help plan, organize, and carry out family decisions. Family counsels are a wonderful way to accomplish family planning. A family counsel is a time when the entire family gets together to plan, express feelings and ideas, and express appropriate concerns. The timing of counsels is crucial. They need to be at a time when emotions are not high and family members are well rested. It needs to be a time for peaceful talk.

Parenting Tips: Teach your kids about money
Easy ways to teach your children about the value of money, saving, and purchasing power. Ideas about giving a child responsibility.
Money is something everyone has to deal with sometime in their life, and how they handle their finances can impact every aspect of their life. It is necessary for parents to teach their children about the value of money, saving and responsibility. Ann Landers said, "Kids who have everything they want soon lose respect for money and for their parents." Nothing could be more true. Parents who spoil their children by buying them absolutely everything they want are not only setting themselves up for financial devastation and despair, but are also damaging their children's future. Kids who don't know the value of money or how to be responsible with it will in the long run have a difficult time obtaining money, and a harder time holding onto it. With the abundance of electronic, extravagant, toys and gizmos available today, children may look at the fact that they don't own something as a form of punishment from their parents or as a show of a lack of love. It is the parents' job to help a child understand this is not true. There are many ways to help teach your child about money, one of the best is by grocery shopping. Let your child experience the grocery shopping, and other necessary bill paying with you. Let them see how much each item costs, and the total bill. $200 a week on groceries may not mean to much to them at first, but put it in terms they can understand. Explain that the new video game system they want cost MORE than 1 week worth of groceries. Always compare prices to something they can understand. That new action figure cost the same as two boxes of cereal that can feed you for over a week. This helps the child understand as children like to eat as much as they like to play!

The School Bully Can Take a Toll on Your Child's Mental Health
Ask any child what a bully looks like, and he or she is likely to describe someone who is bigger and stronger. Yet, while bullies certainly are known for their ability to overpower others physically, mental bullying can be just as damaging to children. When children are picked on by bullies, whether physically or mentally, many feel the need to suffer in silence for fear that speaking up will provoke further torture. But bullying is not a problem that usually just takes care of itself. Action needs to be taken. Parents and caregivers are sometimes reluctant to intervene in conflicts between children but they can teach children not to take part in-or become victims of-bullying. Children can be taught to assert themselves effectively. As a caring adult, you can:
    • Demonstrate assertive behavior. Teach children to ask for things directly and respond directly to each other. It is OK to say "no" to an unacceptable demand. Let children role-play with puppets or dolls.
    • Teach social skills.
