Flu Statistics Greatly Overstated?
An Intuitive Parenting Update on the Flu Evidence has turned up that the flu is not nearly the great threat which the media, certainly the vaccine manufacturers, and even medical organizations, are making the flu out to be. Flu statistics being bandied about include that as many as 36,000 people die every year from the flu. However, the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) own data shows that the in the most recent year for which we have numbers, 2001, there were fewer than 1000 deaths attributable directly to the flu. What is Intuitive Parenting?
Intuitive: (in-too'e-tiv) adj. Comprehended without effort of reasoning; instinctive knowledge. Parenting: (par-ent-ing) verb. The act of a mother or father caring for their child.
The meaning of the term "intuitive parenting" is fairly self evident - it is parenting by intuition. It is a phrase which I coined (although I am sure that others have used it) to describe our own style of parenting which we have evolved in our family. It is listening, if you will, with the heart. It is keeping your eyes, ears, and mind open to your children, and letting what you see, hear, and feel speak directly to your heart, and letting your responses to your children come

Accident report by a helpless Dad.
The following accident reports were filed in conjunction with an automobile collision in which my two daughters somehow managed to run into each other in their own driveway. Both of my vehicles sustained damage.
Older Daughter Report: It wasn't my fault. I was backing out of the garage and she picked that minute to pull into the driveway. She hit me. Now I'm late and I promised Margi I'd meet her at the mall.
Younger Daughter Report: It wasn't my fault. I was in the driveway and if she had been watching where she was going instead of putting on her makeup in the rear-view mirror this would never have happened. I tried to steer around her but then I would have hit Dad's bike, so which was better, hitting the bike or the minivan? Older Daughter Report: Well you took my makeup from the bathroom which is why I had to use some that I had in the minivan. And anyway I hate driving the minivan. If you had come back on time like you were supposed to this never would have happened, because I would have taken the Jimmy instead.

What's New
Written 9/22/2005 The Parenting Forum went live at Imbolc, and we are adding members and the conversations are flowing forth. I invite you to stop in, read, sign up and chat with us. We've got members from all over the world. I think that is so cool. Mabon, the Fall Equinox . This is the third (and final) "male" Sabbat of the year, when we sacrifice him and plant him in the earth. It is also the Fall Equinox; and the beginning of the Dark Half of the year. But this won't be really noticable until Samhain, 6 weeks from now. There are some traditions that have the Holly King wrest control of the year from the Oak King on this day. Other traditions say that the Holly King is born today, and will replace the Oak King at Yule. In any case, today is a time for balance and reflection, for tomorrow things will change as they always do. Since it is the Equinox, doing crafty things about balancing (mobiles and such) are appropriate projects to do with your children. The full moon last week was the Harvest Moon, and seemed especially bright.
