ANXIETY DISORDER
Our aim is to help people to relieve the pain of anxiety with a unique oriental approach. This site is run on a strictly non-commercial basis. We hope to stimulate a constructive debate about Saito Therapy amongst all those who either suffer from or seek to treat Anxiety Disorder What is Saito Therapy This therapy was developed by me (Mr Saito) as a result of suffering from and then curing my own Anxiety Disorder. Saito Therapy is a combination of traditional Japanese Zen meditation and Morita Therapy which was developed by Dr Morita in 1920s. Dr Morita suffered from Anxiety Disorder when he was a university student. He attempted to overcome this disorder by reading books, taking medication, practicing Zen meditation and all sorts of other therapies. But eventually he gave up trying and started studying hard for his exams. He was cured and he became professor of psychiatry at Jikei Medical University. He then began Morita Therapy and this therapy has been accepted as an orthodox method in Japan for nearly 80 years. But despite its reputation and prevalence, it is hard to find anyone who has actually been cured by it. I, myself, underwent Morita Therapy for a total of 4 months and saw no improvement.

Panic disorder
Definition
A panic attack is a sudden, intense experience of fear coupled with an overwhelming feeling of danger, accompanied by physical symptoms of anxiety , such as pounding heart, sweating, and rapid breathing. A person with panic disorder may have repeated panic attacks (at least several a month) and feel severe anxiety about having another attack. Description
Each year, panic disorder affects 1 out of 63 Americans. While many people experience moments of anxiety, panic attacks are sudden and unprovoked, having little to do with real danger. Panic disorder is a chronic, debilitating condition that can have a devastating impact on a person's family, work, and social life. Typically, the first attack strikes without warning. A person might be walking down the street, driving a car, or riding an escalator when suddenly panic strikes. Pounding heart, sweating palms, and an overwhelming feeling of impending doom are common features. While the attack may last only seconds or minutes, the experience can be profoundly disturbing. A person who has had one panic attack typically worries that another one may occur at any time. As the fear of future panic attacks deepens, the person begins to avoid situations in which panic occurred in the past. In severe cases of panic disorder, the victim refuses to leave the house for fear of having a panic attack. This fear of being in exposed places is often called

One-week intensive treatment program for panic with agoraphobia
People with panic disorder have feelings of terror that strike suddenly and repeatedly with no warning. They can't predict when an attack will occur, and many develop intense anxiety between episodes, worrying when and where the next one will strike. In between times there is a persistent, lingering worry that another attack could come any minute. When a panic attack strikes, most likely your heart pounds and you may feel sweaty, weak, faint, or dizzy. Your hands may tingle or feel numb, and you might feel flushed or chilled. You may have chest pain or smothering sensations, a sense of unreality, or fear of impending doom or loss of control. You may genuinely believe you're having a heart attack or stroke, losing your mind, or on the verge of death. Attacks can occur any time, even during nondream sleep. While most attacks average a couple of minutes, occasionally they can go on for up to 10 minutes. In rare cases, they may last an hour or more. Panic disorder strikes between 3 and 6 million Americans, and is twice as common in women as in men. It can appear at any agein children or in the elderlybut most often it begins in young adults. Not everyone who experiences panic attacks will develop panic disorder for example, many people have one attack but never have another. For those who do have panic disorder, though, it's important to seek treatment. Untreated, the disorder can become very disabling.

    Panic Disorder
    Introduction
Panic disorder (PD) is a type of anxiety disorder and is characterised by recurrent episodes of panic attacks and the development of fear, worries and anxiety regarding the possibility of future attacks, along with several physical symptoms. The unpredictable recurrence of new panic attacks may cause sufficient fear and lead to severe avoidance behaviour and anticipatory anxiety (Lepola et al., 1996c). Panic attacks are characterised by sudden and unexpected distinct periods of intense fear, nervousness or apprehension, terror, panic or discomfort. They are often accompanied by physical symptoms, such as shortness of breath, dizziness, palpitations, angina, excessive perspiration, trembling, nausea or abdominal distress; and cognitivesymptoms such as depersonalisation or derealisation, and the fear of losing control, going crazy, having a heart attack, or even dying (Roy-Byrne, 1992). These somatic experiences lead many patients to seek care in non-psychiatric settings, such as emergency rooms and physicians' offices (Gorman and Papp, 1990; Katerndahl and Realini, 1995; Bouwer et al., 1997) and patients suffering from PD use healthcare services at rates higher than usual. In one study, PD was found to be associated with greater demand for general, emergency and psychiatric services than any other psychiatric diagnosis (Katon et al., 1992).

Little did I realize how easy ones life can be turned upside down. After watching people I love also battle with a mental illness little did I know until the onset of my battle with Panic Attacks why people talk less about it.
I guess knowing how I felt - ashamed - embarrassed - not wanting people labeling me a fruit loop that I decided only my husband - oldest daughter and sister know what I was battling..
Now looking back I have realized it was the wrong decision for me, if I learnt to be more opened minded about what was happening to me, maybe just maybe I would of been able to have more control.

    FEAR=Face Everything And Recover!!!
    A PD Survivor's Page
I am lost inside myself. Trapped by fear and pain. Will I ever walk alone again in sunshine and in rain?
I lost myself so long ago. I can't remember me. I can only hope and pray, that someday I'll be free.
No one knows the terror, that dwells within my heart. I can't explain the way it feels, it's tearing me apart.
I cannot seem to overcome this gnawing awful fear. I find it hard to live with hope, thru each quick passing year.
I pray that God will rescue me and give me back my life. Helping me to overcome this ever present strife
Hello and Welcome!! My name is Dee. When I wrote the poem above, I was in my 8th year of living with Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia. Didn't sound real optimistic, did I? Now I am in year 22 and I have an entirely different outlook on how panic disorder affects my life.
I still have panic disorder, I still have panic attacks occasionally, I still avoid things. So what's different? The difference is in how I think!! Before I was full of "what ifs" and "why me's". I had to learn to think differently. I had to learn to say "so what if" and "why not me". It wasn't an easy lesson to learn, but once I accepted this simple fact, my life began to change.
One truth I have learned from living with PD is....I CAN CHOOSE HOW I FEEL BY HOW I REACT TO THINGS. I can't control how other people act toward me or how they treat me, but I can control how I react to them. Realizing that I have a choice empowers me and is very freeing.....I am no longer a victim. This was key in my beginning the journey toward recovery.
