The People's Paleontologist
Local prospector makes plans to share his love of fossils with Santa Fe What started out as yet another hunt for dinosaur bones in Montana ended with a trip to China for a local fossil prospector. Now Charlie Snell, who has been trying to drum up funding and support for a youth paleontology museum in Santa Fe, is joining efforts with a nonprofit organization that combines dinosaur digs with tours and education in China and the United States. The PaleoWorld Research Foundation has been operating out of Jordan, Mont., for three years and recently expanded its reach to Taiwan and China. Snell encountered the organization there and then embarked on a voyage to one of the main dinosaur sites in China, where PaleoWorld is renovating a building for future guests.

Mar. 06,2001 The Signing Ceremony of Museum Sister Relationship Agreement between the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology and the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum
On March 6 of 2001, the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum (FPDM) entered into a museum sister relationship with the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IVPP), which is one of the largest paleontological institutes in Asia. IVPP has a long history of paleontological studies, and enormous materials on paleontology. There are about 150 institute staff, including about 60 researchers. Dr. Dong Ziming, who stands foremost among the dinosaurologists of the day, belongs to IVPP. IVPP and Fukui Government have established an intimate relationship through the Dinosaur Excavation Project. And this signing ceremony of museum sister relationship is a result of further development of the partnership with IVPP. From now on, we expect to establish a closer relationship by exchanging people and specimens.

Nationally certified, licensed massage therapists offer massage and integrative bodywork daily. History Ghost Ranch was given by Arthur and Phoebe Pack to the Presbyterian Church in 1955. The 21,000 acres that comprise Ghost Ranch were part of a land grant to Pedro Martin Serrano from the King of Spain in 1766. The grant was called Piedra Lumbre (shining rock). The name "Ghost Ranch", or the local name Rancho de los Brujos, was derived from the many tales of ghosts and legends of hangings in the Ranch's history. In Northern New Mexico villages, la resolana is a space on the south side of a building - protected from the wind and warmed by the absorbed rays of the winter sun - where people gather to exchange news and share stories. It has been described as a place where the community comes together in dialog and out of which a body of knowledge grows. In keeping with our name, Ghost Ranch in Santa Fe is a place where the elements of community, culture, light and dialog form the basis of a special learning process.

North of Drumheller, and about 145km (90 miles) northeast of Calgary, this is one of the world's best paleontology museums and educational facilities. It offers far more than just impressive skeletons and life-size models, though it has dozens of them. The entire fossil record of the earth is explained, era by era, with an impressive variety of media and educational tools. You walk through a prehistoric garden, watch numerous videos, use computers to "design" dinosaurs for specific habitats, watch plate tectonics at work, and see museum technicians preparing fossils. The museum is also a renowned research facility where scientists study all forms of ancient life. Radiating out from Drumheller and the museum are a number of interesting side trips. Pick up a map from the museum and follow an hour's loop drive into the badlands along North Dinosaur Trail. The paved road passes two viewpoints over the badlands and crosses a free car-ferry on the Red Deer River before returning to Drumheller along the South Dinosaur Trail. A second loop passes through Rosedale to the south, past a ghost town, hoodoo formations, and a historic coal mine.

Palaeontology Palaeontology is the study of fossils; these are preserved remains of ancient life forms and are most commonly found in the form of petrified bones, shells, coprolites, wood, seeds, insects, footprints impressions and leaves (impressions). The NMK Palaeontology Division has one of the most outstanding fossil collection worldwide, and the mammalian fossil collection particularly the hominids draws researchers from all over the world. Being the custodians of Kenya's unparalled and priceless fossil heritage, the Division has continued to protect and conserve this irreplaceable heritage. Kenya is well known for the many fossil sites found largely within the Rift Valley and the Lake Victoria region. Research in the Palaeontology Division focuses on these sites with a view to reconstruct the evolutionary history of our own and other animal species. Past climatic and environmental changes led to the evolution of the many different plant and animal species found in East Africa today. Numerous important fossil specimens collected over the years comprise an impressive national collection. The Division is responsible for the documentation of these fossils, the majority of which range in age between twenty and one million years before present. Scientists from all over the world come to study them and learn about the evolutionary history of our own species, Homo sapiens , and the prevailing climates and resultant ecology that provided habitats for plants and animals that lived in this region in the past.
