  • Dinosaur Ridge is a geologically famous natural landmark, located along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, near Morrison, Colorado. This location features historically famous Jurassic dinosaur bone, such as Stegosaurus and Apatosaurus, discovered in 1877, and Cretaceous dinosaur footprints, attributed to ornithopod and theropod dinosaurs. A guidebook is available for use on self-guided tours. Guided tours can be arranged through the Friends of Dinosaur Ridge.
  • University of Colorado Museum of Natural History , Boulder, Colorado

  • One of the premier natural history museums in the country, this institution was founded at the turn of the century to house the collection of Colorado naturalist Edwin Carter. Visitors can see dinosaur fossils such as Stegosaurus stenops (the state fossil), a small-headed, armor-plated vegetarian that roamed the state 150 million years ago. Enormous remains of the Nebraska mammoth and long-jawed mastodon also are on display.

    DINO LAND ENGLISH VERSION
Hosted by Steve Brusatte and Dino Land
WELCOME TO DINO LAND! Thank you for visiting the Official Dino Land Website. Dino Land, a small nonprofit museum in Ottawa, Illinois, USA, began this website in January of 1999 in order to provide dinosaur fans around the globe with up to date dinosaur news, interviews with their favorite paleontologists, a forum to discuss dinosaur related topics, and a site worth visiting over and over. Dino Land itself was created in 1991 by Chris Brusatte. Today its website is run by Steve Brusatte, a 15 year old dinosaur researcher and fanatic who is currently trying to become the first teenager to write a paleontology book. He has interviewed over 90 paleontologists to accomplish this, and has written over 30 articles in various publications including dinosaur magazines and newsletters. Dinosaurs are truly some of the most amazing animals ever to walk the earth. Because of their captivating size and length of rule dinosaurs remain as the most successful land animals ever to grace the planet. While our human ancestors have been around for a mere two years dinosaurs reigned for over 150 years, and suddenly died out 65 million years ago at the close of the Cretaceous period. Dinosaur remains were first seriously studied scientifically in the 1820's, with such pioneers as William Buckland and Gideon Mantell describing and naming the first dinosaur species. While most of the early dinosaurs were discovered in England and the surrounding Europe a new frontier was open nearly 30 years after the first dinosaur naming with the discovery of the Hadrosaurus in theAmerican state of New Jersey. From there American dinosaur researchers discovered the droves of dinosaur treasures in the American west, especially the modern states of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah.

The People of Paleontology The people of paleontology range from independent fossil workers to university employees to museum curators—to amateur enthusiasts. While their jobs, their scientific focus, and their favorite paleo experiences may differ, they share several "characters." Most of all, they love fossils. They love ancient monsters. They love taking a glimpse into the past. And here is a glimpse at a selection of the people who bring the past home to us.

    TRICERATOPS
    (Triceratops horridus)
    State Fossil of South Dakota
    Description
This dinosaur species was first known from a single partial horn, which Marsh named Bison alticornis in 1889. John Bell
Hatcher, a collector in Marsh's employ, traced the original horn to eastern Wyoming and proceeded to collect many skulls
for Marsh. Marsh, Hatcher and Lull wrote a book in 1907 on all horned dinosaurs known at that time. Today, that book
remains an important document for those studying horned dinosaurs. The current scientific name, Triceratops , means
three-horned face. Fossil Distribution The three distinctive facial horns and the frill-like fan on the back of the skull make this dinosaur species one of the most
widely recognized fossils. The animal's large size - up to 8.7 yards (8 meters) long and about 8,800 to 11,000 pounds (4,000 to 5,000 kilograms) in weight for adults - combine to make this dinosaur fossil quite impressive. Distribution Triceratops is known from eastern and western Wyoming, eastern Montana, southwestern North Dakota, central Colorado,
Alberta and Saskatchewan in Canada, and northwestern South Dakota. In South Dakota, Triceratops specimens have been

The Museum of Paleontology and Historical Geology was arranged in its almost contemporary appearance in 1965, immediately before the opening of the Karpato-Balkan Geological Association's congress. With this arrangement the visitors can gain a good concept of the enormous fossil treasure and the facial diversity of the geological systems, found on Bulgarian territory. With the exposition of diverse geological maps of various Bulgarian and foreign geologists, the different aspects and historical conceptions of the geological structure of our country can be traced.
