Dinosaurs often left their footprints in sand or mud. Thousands of years later, the sand and mud turned to stone and preserved the footprints.
Illustration by Mark Hallett Footprints Help Solve Dinosaur Mysteries By Sarah Ives National Geographic Kids News August 16, 2004 Detectives often look for footprints when they try to solve crimes. Scientists use footprints too—dinosaur footprints—when they try to figure out how dinosaurs lived and moved. Dinosaurs died out about 65 million years ago. Today scientists called paleontologists (pale-ee-on-TALL-o-gists) work to solve the mysteries of these ancient animals. This man measures one of many dinosaur footprints along the coast of Korea. People have discovered dinosaur footprints in many places throughout the world.
Photograph by O. Louis Mazzatenta Footprints, or tracks, are an important way to learn about dinosaurs. Christian Meyer of the Natural History Museum in Basel, Switzerland, calls dinosaur tracks "the closest thing to a movie" of dinosaurs.

The Well-wired Student
Peter Scisco
>Having a well-wired child doesn't put your family at the edge of bionic engineering. But it does put vast pools of information into the hands of young learners. A modem and a personal computer give your child access to books, magazines, newspapers, photographs, maps, illustrations, and other materials that might not be available in a school or local public library. Electronic information sources are convenient and current. But before you and your kids can make the most of them, you have to learn where to look. A few well-marked spots in cyberspace will make a big difference when it comes time to write that next term paper. Internet
