I hope it proves useful to students, teachers, fossil collectors, paleontologists, and anyone else with rocks in their heads. I myself am a long-time fossil enthusiast with a special interest in dinosaur tracks (I have a web site devoted to my work on Texas tracks and the related Paluxy "man track" controversy ). Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Treatise on Invertebrate Paleontology , published by the Geological Society of America and the University of Kansas Press, is a definitive multi-authored work of some 50 volumes , written by more than 300 authors, and covering every phylum, class, order, family , and genus of fossil and (usually) extant invertebrate (genera with no fossil record have only very brief listing), along with their taxonomy morphology paleoecology and stratigraphic and geographical range. The work is not yet complete (for example there is no volume on post-Palaeozoic Caenogastropods ) and every so often earlier volumes are revised.

    History of the Project
Raymond C. Moore , the project's founder and editor , originally envisaged the Treatise as comprising three hefty large volumes and 3,000 pages in all. The project began with work on a few mostly slim volumes in which a single senior specialist in a field would summarize a particular group, the result being a compilation of everything known at that time on that group. Examples of this stage of the project are Part G. Bryozoa, by Ray S. Bassler

This CLN "Theme Page" has links to two types of resources related to the study of dinosaurs. Students and teachers will find curricular resources (information, content...) to help them learn about this topic. In addition, there are also links to instructional materials (lesson plans) which will help teachers provide instruction in this theme.

    I Want To Be A Paleontologist !
    Advice for Students and Parents
    Paleontological Research Institution
Ithaca, NY There is no luckier person than the person who can make their passion their career. Most professional paleontologists are just such lucky people. They are people consumed with a passion to understand the history of life on earth. Paleontology is fun, thrilling, and fascinating, but it is also hard work. It is not "easier" than the more traditional "core" science disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology, or geology. In many ways, paleontology is more difficult than any other science because to be a good paleontologist you must know a great deal about all of these fields. Paleontology is among the broadest of sciences.
    What is paleontology?
What background do I need in high school?
The best starting point is a college preparatory program with as many science and math courses as possible. Outside reading in paleontology and visiting museums with fossil displays is helpful for building up knowledge of fossils themselves. No matter how interested or knowledgeable a student is in paleontology, however, good overall grades in high school are almost always required for admission to a good college or university, which is a necessary prerequisite for a career in paleontology.

Course Description TOP This is a 3-credit graduate-level seminar for students interested in paleontology, geobiology, and related disciplines. The course meets on weekly basis and follows a seminar format. Students will be responsible for (1) selecting papers/topics, (2) presenting a summary of the papers they selected, and (3) moderating round table discussions. The theme of our seminar this year will be "Environmental Paleontology". Our task will be to investigate those research directions of modern paleontology that are applicable and/or relevant to our society. Thus, in exploring possible themes, you need not limit yourself to "environmental issues", but should feel free to search for any studies that apply paleontological data to address non-standard issues such as, for example, conservation biology, pollution, environmental/ecological changes, medieval history, or rapid global changes. This course should be useful to all of us for the following reasons: We will learn specific case studies that apply paleontological data to address non-paleontological issues. Such studies tend to be highly interdisciplinary and will provide us with useful example for integrating paleontological records with other types of data.
