If it hadn't been for my abysmal lack of ability in math, I probably would've become a scientist instead of a Romantic Lit major. As to what kind of science, I never had the opportunity to discover my alter milieu - I love several fields of hard science and several of (what are considered by some) the "softer" sciences. I have now broken these links down by category. Because of the inter-disciplinary nature of so much in the sciences these days, I thought it better to list some links in more than just one category. If you think any other link(s) belong in a different category, or definitely should be in more than one, please send me e-mail. I'd also like to know if you are aware of other good Science links I have missed. Thank you.

GENERAL LINKS Dinosauricon . T. Mike Keesey. A great dinosaur web site with tons of technical and not so technical information. You'll find a genus list with information on each genus, often illustrated. There is a phylogeny of the dinosaurs, the biggest and smallest, anatomy, ages of the Mesozoic, and a very extensive gallery of dinosaur pictures and movies. Highly recommended. Kids should go directly to the art gallery because the rest is a bit technical for the younger reader. Dinosauria On-Line . Dinosauria On-Line has a large collection of paintings and photographs of dinosaurs. It also has a glossary of dinosaur terminology, a generic list, a map of the earth during the period of the dinosaurs, a dinosaur classification, and a number of articles on specific (mostly technical) topics. A great site for the dinosaur enthusiast.

Fossil Information for Beginners
A private collection of fossils is on view here, well worth exploring for its wealth of diversity: dinosaurs, corals, trilobites, and plants are just a few groups represented. PALEONTOLOGY ON THE WORLD-WIDE WEB
STEVEN H. SCHIMMRICH
INTRODUCTION
THE EXPLOSIVE growth of the world-wide web, a vast network of interconnected computers which allows you to seamlessly access multimedia information (text, images, and binary files) from servers anywhere in the world, has resulted in a large amount of information useful to K-16 teachers. The problem is finding this information and being sure it's correct (almost anyone can create a web page). This paper is an attempt to bring some order to the chaos and lists many paleontology resources on the web which may be of interest to K-16 students and instructors along with some tips on how these resources may be used in a classroom setting.
LEARNING FROM FOSSILS
Many fossils are aesthetically pleasing and some, such as dinosaurs, easily excite our imaginations but why should we study fossils? What can we learn from them? Paleontology is a multidisciplinary science incorporating biology, geology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Learning about how paleontologists practice the science of paleontology teaches students about the science in general. Paleontologists routinely utilize field methods, laboratory techniques, computers analyses, mathematics, and theoretical models in their research. The mass media often reports on the latest ideas regarding global warming or global cooling. Such climatic shifts will have a great effect on our future but how do we know if the earth is warming up or cooling down? What can tell us about the climate in the past? Paleontologists study several types of plant and animal microfossils to provide answers to these questions.

Paleontology in Museums and Institutes in the 21st Century Douglas H. Erwin (Smithsonian Institution, Department of Paleobiology, MRC 121, Washington DC 20560-0001, USA). INTRODUCTION
Our discussions began with the recognition that the fundamental basis of all paleontological research is specimens and collections. These specimens may exist in the field, but much of our knowledge of them is with reference to material held in museum collections. Since the collections of individual researchers are ephemeral, museums and research institutions serve as the ultimate repositories for our documentation of the history of life, in addition to their role documenting past discoveries and as reference for future studies.
The second key theme is that museums provide the intersection between the general public and fossils. The contact with actual specimens provides immediacy to the message of museums that is not possible in any other medium. Consequently, museums play a primary role in conveying the excitement of the history of life, methods of scientific inquiry, and the vital importance of collections to the public.

    Paleontology in the 21st Century
(An International Senckenberg Conference and Workshop)
    Reports and Recommendations
Introduction WORKSHOP SUMMARY RATIONALE In early September 1997, 108 paleontologists and allied individuals from 30 countries (Table 1) met at Senckenberg Museum, Frankfurt, Germany to participate in a Senckenberg World Conference entitled "Paleontology in the 21st Century". This body of individuals represented:
  • The various organizations that employ paleontologists (Table 2).
  • Many of the societies that serve the profession and, therefore, the specialties that comprise the science (Table 3).
  • An fair representation of participants by number of years in paleontology (Figure 1).
  • A gender split of 94 males and 14 females. Meeting participants identified and discussed issues facing the various specialties/components of paleontology, as well as the science of paleontology in general. The assembly agreed that the issues identified are among the most important ones facing paleontology today. It is planned now to engage the entire community of interest (all paleontologists and those interested) in a dialogue of those issues approached in Frankfurt and perhaps formulate new issues and alternatives not yet recognized. The ultimate objective of the planned dialogue is to establish consensual solutions/directions as paleontology enters the next millennium. Thus, the participants in Frankfurt agreed that the purpose of the Senckenberg workshop was:
