18-Jun-03, 08:45 PM (MST) The orphan trains of the first part of the 20th Century were a sad chapter in American and railroading history. Herewith is another account. We hear of the survivors, but I wonder how many orphans were abused, abandoned and perished. Of course, no records of them were made. Many of the orphans had brothers and sisters sent elsewhere, with whom contact was never made again. I also believe, but have no confirmation, of the same orphan relocation practice occurring in Canada. Area man remembers 'Orphan Train'

DELMAR - From 1854 to 1929, trains came to Iowa from New York and Boston, filled with children as young as infants to as old as 16. The children had something in common, they were all orphans coming to find new homes.
