We started out at a 1 acre home in Landenberg, PA. We gardened, canned, dryed, salted, but were still too close to civilization to really make a change.
In May of 1998, we relocated to North Carolina and are living in an apartment until we find that perfect piece of country. If you share this dream, we are glad you decided to visit us! Welcome
I am not sure what is wrong with me, but I keep having dirty thoughts. Not the kind that are XXX rated, but the kind that make me want to outside and start digging in the yard. It started with small things- I began collecting houseplants and growing chile peppers, then it became a full blown gardening obsession. I can't see a yard or piece of land without thinking, "Hmm, what can I plant there?" I love being outside and I have always been "slightly crunchy", almost granola but not quite. I believe in frugal living, composting, recycling, eating fresh organically grown foods and working with nature, not against it. I love flowers and being surrounded by trees and plants, as you will see here. This is my site, let me show you the lay of the land, so to speak. Dirty Thoughts - I find gardening very peaceful and do some of my best thinking out there. Here are some of my musings and also a collection of gardening quotations and humor from the Web and other sources. So what exactly is in my garden? These pages have detailed information and photos of everything I am growing and even some things I don't have, but just like.

71. Tree Pruning By Houston Garden Center And Nursery By Maas-Gardens And Gardening
This article discusses the use and preparation of organic matter for soil enrichmentand organic techniques for pest and disease control.
http://www.maasnursery.com/organictechniques.htm
Organic Gardening Techniques
The success or failure of the organic approach depends on how gardeners use and prepare organic matter. Organic matter improves soil tilth and prevents soil compaction and crusting. It increases the water holding ability of the soil and provides a more favorable soil environment for earthworms and beneficial microorganisms. It slows erosion, and in later stages of decay, organic matter releases nitrogen and other nutrients to growing crops. Carbon dioxide from decaying organic matter brings minerals of the soil into solution, making them available to growing plants. Many soils of the world have been ruined, mainly because they have been depleted of organic matter from prolonged cultivation without proper soil management. Sources of organic matter Sources of organic fertilizers Sources of inorganic fertilizers Adjusting soil acidity ... Controlling insects
Sources of organic matter
Animal manures. Where available, animal manures are excellent sources of organic matter and nutrients for the soil. It is best to apply manures after they have been composted and partially broken down. Fresh manure may be applied directly to the soil, but this should be done in fall and plowed down so that there is adequate time for sufficient breakdown and ammonia release before crops are planted.

Garden Glossary INTRODUCTION
This glossary has been composed to help both the beginner gardener and those who have been gardening for a while. It's nice to know what everyone's talking about. Gardening : a disease for which there is no cure. Caught by association with other gardeners, reading books, enjoying botanical gardens, watching garden shows or making frequent stops to local nurseries. Also by taking road trips to far away garden spots. No complete treatment, if any at all. Choose the letter of the word you wish to look up:
