    45. Bioanalytical Chemistry Research At Evergreen
Overview and resources from a department which since 1984 has developed spectroscopic instruments, computer interfacing, image processing, applied linear algebra, and organic chemistry synthesis procedures for physiological research and clinical use, at Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA.
    http://www.evergreen.edu/biophysics/
Bioanalytical chemistry research at The Evergreen State College is conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Jeff Kelly and Dr. Clyde Barlow. Together, they have been developing physiological procedures and instruments for research and clinical use since 1984. Their work is funded mainly by the National Institutes of Health under the set-aside program Small Business Innovation Research . The lab motto is "If it were easy, it would already have been done." Students can gain valuable laboratory research experience while working on a variety of projects in the fields of physiology, spectroscopy, computer interfacing, image processing, applied linear algebra, and organic chemistry synthesis.
The laboratory staff possesses many years of experience working with optical detection of fluorescence and reflectance, electronic design, instrument construction and the development of software for data analysis and computer control of instrumentation. Welcome to the Colby College Organic Chemistry Page
The purpose of this web site is to provide additional resources for students of organic chemistry, both at the introductory and advanced levels. Within, one can find thought provoking problems (along with answers), class notes, and handouts. Also multimedia demos which we have used in the classroom to illustrate concepts in organic chemistry can be viewed online using the Shockwave technology from Macromedia. All sections have an online office hour component where students can ask questions related to organic chemistry. A section of links pertinent to undergraduates studying chemistry is also included. Currently, we have two sections: 1) a section covering course material for a sophomore organic chemistry class, and 2) a section covering material for an organic synthesis course. In the future, we will be adding sections covering physical organic chemistry and resources for organic chemistry teachers.
To take maximum advantage of the resources on this page, you will need the following:

    Preface
The Beilstein Dictionary (German/English) has been compiled by the scientific staff of the Beilstein Institute to facilitate the use of Basic Series and Supplementary Series I to IV by those Handbook users whose native language is not German. With a total of about 2,100 entries, it contains most German words occurring in the Beilstein Handbook, as well as common abbreviations, alphabetically listed with their English equivalents. It is our hope that this glossary will prove of assistance to the non German-speaking user of Beilstein, in overcoming any language difficulties which may be encountered.

    Reaction Index:
    Name Reactions in Organic Chemistry
Chemistry, since the times of Antoine Lavoiser, has made efforts to systematically name chemical compounds, however, it has not been very successful in developing a nomenclature of chemical reactions. The IUPAC Commission on Physical Organic Chemistry has recommended a system for naming not reactions but transformations - a transformation shows only the substrate and product, whereas a reaction includes all the reactants. Apparently this has its merits, but it has not been widely accepted yet. Consequently, many reactions are known by the name of the scientists who discovered, popularized or studied them. This is a list of such reactions, with the hope of building a database containing a graphical abstract and the original reference for each one of them. The graphical abstracts have been created by Softshell's ChemWeb program. Contributions from the chemical community are welcome , as well as any comments or suggestions. A B C D ...
