O R E G O N H ome of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland is full of cultural opportunities. There are also various other theatre groups, featuring a wide variety of performances, including musicals, comedy and experimental theatre. Shakespeare and other plays are presented in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's outdoor Elizabethan Theater and the Angus Bowmer Theatre and also the New Theater. Music is everywhere in Ashland, with opera, bluegrass, folk singing and chamber music being only some of the offerings for visitors. L I n addition to the wide variety of cultural offerings, Ashland has many forms of recreation. Skiing Mt. Ashland is a popular wintertime activity. There are 23 ski runs, 80 miles of cross country trails, and, best of all, it's only 15 miles from downtown Ashland. Ashland, built on the banks of Bear Creek, also has the Bear Creek Bike and Nature Trail. A favorite of bikers, the trail runs along Bear Creek, then down the valley to Medford. There is river rafting and jet boat rides on the Rogue and Klamath Rivers, and many pristine mountain lakes for anglers to try their hand at catching steelhead, salmon and trout.

Alton Baker Park Walks Program
Join our trained volunteer guides on weekdays in the fall or spring for morning nature walks in Alton Baker Park. Watch great blue herons fish in the river and see wildflowers in bloom. Catch insects in the tall grass and hear the music of songbirds.
Walk groups are always small (six to eight kids) and each student who participates in a walk takes home a copy of EXPLORE, our youth newsletter highlighting nearby natural areas, nature activities, and more. 1st-6th Graders: Theme Walks! Link your walk to topics you are exploring in the classroom. Choose from five different walk themes: Critter Quest (insects and other creepy crawlies), Forest Fun (plant discovery), Conservation Quest (explore energy conservation in nature), River Quest (water and geology), or Nature Detectives (a bit of everything). Our knowledgeable and talented guides use a variety of nature games, hands-on activities, and stories to make each walk educational and age-appropriate.

I don´t have to really explain what´s covered in the Chess, Math, Science, & Computer mini-camps. But, in case you need to know, that would be Chess (strategies for middle game and end-game (that´s the more advanced class)), Math (probability and statistics, which always helps on those "guess the number of pennies in a jar" type games), Science (well, it´s about science and fun experiments), and Computer (web design). Oh yeah, I almost forgot, there are also for grades 3 through adult.
