Virtual instruction is an increasingly common phenomenon, both in K-12 and higher education classrooms. Several Oregon-based programs serve K-12 students. In Oregon, and around the world, learners of all ages take advantage of online education programs for ease of use and to access otherwise unavailable classes. Many students are separated from resources geographically or through time conflicts. Online schools provide learning and studying options for everyone. We have listed here some of the online programs available to Oregon students. (If you know of a program you would like to see listed, please let us know). These online classes and programs are available to students statewide. http://www.skonline.org/

Support for Nurses Working in Oregon's K-12 Schools Researchers and clinicians report that health needs of Oregon's youth are increasing in number, complexity and severity. Increasing numbers of students in schools have health problems linked to low school achievement, poor self-esteem, and other factors which inhibit student success. More students need sophisticated mental health assessment and interventions. Many students have significant chronic, disabling, sometimes life-threatening conditions and have complex medical and treatment protocols. OHSU School of Nursing is working with local schools to promote the Public Health Model(PHM). The PHM focuses on health assessment, early intervention, health promotion, health counseling, and referral management of special health needs. These target school-wide or district-wide programs in Oregon. Another program that benifits Oregon's Schools is the School-based Health Centers, Primary Care Model (PCM). This is the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of minor acute illness and injuries. In addition with the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues.

An Overview of RCCP
... Conclusion Foreword This report describes a program in the schools of Lincoln County, Oregon, to reduce the incidence and consequences of violence among young people. The program in Lincoln County implements the Resolving Conflict Creatively Program (RCCP), an initiative of Educators for Social Responsibility (ESR). RCCP is now used in 350 schools that serve 150,000 young people in nine states. Children who participate in RCCP increase their ability to manage emotions and resolve conflict. Research suggests that the program has had a significant positive impact on the development of children who received regular instruction (an average of 25 lessons) in the RCCP curriculum. These children saw their world in a less hostile way and were more likely to choose nonviolent ways to resolve conflict. The program was equally effective for boys and girls and for low- and high-risk children. Preliminary evidence suggests that children who received substantial instruction in the RCCP curriculum performed significantly better on academic achievement tests and were reported by their teachers as less aggressive than all other children. The most positive change occurred in children who received regular instruction over two years.

March 2001 Oregon's K-12 Public Schools The following K-12 school districts currently provide distance-learning services for their students. In each case, the distance learning programs are primarily designed for students who reside in the district area, however students residing outside the area may also enroll in courses. Typically, tuition for in-district students is covered by the school district and reimbursed by the state. Tuition for out-of-district students is normally covered by the home district of the student through interdistrict agreement. In some cases, students pay out-of-pocket for courses (course costs range from $320 to $350 per semester class), especially for summer school courses or for courses to supplement a homeschool program. Eugene: CyberSchool www.cyberschool.k12.or.us CyberSchool is a consortium of public school institutions located in several states that offer distance learning courses to students in their district. Based in Eugene, Oregon, Cyberschool partners with the Oregon Public Education Network (OPEN) and Eugene’s 4-J School District to provide online learning opportunities to students in Oregon. The teachers employed by Cyberschool in Eugene are licensed professionals and they are covered by the collective bargaining agreement. (All Cyberschool teachers in the consortium are licensed in the state in which they are based.) District management of CyberSchool is currently being transferred to Linn Benton-Lincoln Education Service District.

US Home Intel Worldwide Where to Buy Contact Us ... Oregon Economic Impact According to a study prepared by ECONorthwest, a Portland-based consulting firm: Intel's operations have a significant positive economic impact on Washington County, the Portland Metropolitan Area and the state of Oregon. Intel's capital spending in Oregon has had a significant and growing positive impact on the economies of Washington County, the Portland Metropolitan Area and the state. Intel's voluntary contributions to charitable, educational, civic and arts organizations, along with its voluntary contributions and payments and payment of taxes to local governments, have had a positive impact on the economies of Washington County, the Portland Metropolitan Area and the state. Intel has the largest economic impact on Washington County, the Portland Metropolitan Area and the state of any single private employer. The additional revenues received by local governments and schools from Intel greatly exceeded the costs imposed by Intel itself. The revenue local governments and schools receive from Intel's employees far exceed the costs those employees and their households impose.
