General Information
This 17 and month program consists of three distinct phases. First is a 2 week Pre-Challenge Phase. This is the trial period in which each Corpsmember (Cadet) is given a chance to prove his or her commitment to the program. A cut is done at the end of this Phase. For those who pass the Pre-Challenge Phase, next comes the 20 week Challenge Residential Phase. Both of these residential phases take place at the Central Oregon Training and Education Facility (COTEF) in Bend, Oregon. The third is the post-residential Mentorship Phase which begins during the residential phase and continues for one year after the cadet successfully completes the residential phase. This is a highly important phase of the program.

General Educational Development (GED) Introduction For more than fifty years, the GED Tests have offered personal satisfaction and broadened professional, occupational and educational opportunities for millions of adults, who, for many reasons, were unable to complete their formal high school credential. The GED Tests give adults who did not graduate from high school the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency certificate. Recognized nationwide by employers and educators, the GED certificate has increased education and employment opportunities for millions of adults since 1942.

The Oregon Teacher Recruitment and Mentoring (OTRM) project is a statewide initiative to support the recruitment and retention of highly qualified mid-career professionals, school paraprofessionals, and recent college graduates as teachers in high-need schools through enhanced alternative pathways to certification. The project, a partnership among the Oregon University System (OUS), Oregon Department of Education (ODE), and five Oregon public universities, is designed to enable high-need school districts in Oregon, many of them rural, to address their teacher shortages by enabling them to hire and retain highly talented skilled individuals who desire to make a career move into teaching. OTRM focuses on two objectives:
  • Teacher Shortages: During the first four years, the project will expand the state's capacity to address critical teacher shortages through new recruitment strategies and alternative pathways to teaching by enrolling 50-60 teachers per year for four years into the five universities' various pathways to licensure, for a total of 200-240 by the end of the project. ($5,000 tuition assistance scholarships will be provided to students who agree to teach in a high-need school for at least three years.)

Oregon attorney general wants Sizemore stopped
Now that two teachers unions have proven to a jury that organizations run by union-foe Bill Sizemore engaged in a pattern of fraud and forgery, Oregon Attorney General Hardy Myers announced that the state will join as a party to the lawsuit. On Nov. 7, it filed a set of requests for the judge in the case to consider. The state joined the Oregon Education Association (OEA) and the American Federation of Teachers-Oregon in requesting that Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Jerome LaBarre dissolve Sizemore's Oregon Taxpayers United Education Foundation and restrict Sizemore's ability to open up a similar operation under a new name. In addition, the state asked LaBarre to:
