STANDARD TWO - Educational Program And Its Effectiveness
2.1 Policy on General Education/Related Instruction Requirements
The Commission endorses the concept of general education and, as described below, requires of all undergraduate programs a substantial and coherent program of general education or a program of related instruction. By design, the policy is intended to be qualitative rather than quantitative in nature. No formula for specific application or particular pattern of general education is endorsed. However, every institution is expected to publish in its general catalog a clear and complete statement of its requirements for general education and/or related instruction, as appropriate. General Education. General education introduces students to the content and methodology of the major areas of knowledge - the humanities and fine arts, the natural sciences, mathematics, and the social sciences - and helps them develop the mental skills that will make them more effective learners. General education may, of course, be taught in different ways, and an institution must judge whether its students are better served by curricula or requirements that approach the disciplines through content and methodology, or that approach the disciplines by concentrating on outcomes. The rationale and plan for the general education requirements should be cooperatively developed by the faculty, administrative staff, and trustees, and the expected outcomes should be stated in relation to the institution's mission and goals.

General Agriculture Department
The Department of Agricultural Education and General Agriculture combines two programs. The General Agriculture program is an undergraduate studies program which provides maximum flexibility in designing and structuring a course of study to meet the students' individual needs. The goal of the General Agriculture program is to help students identify the agricultural career in which they are most interested and build a course of study that will qualify each student for his or her chosen profession. Advising is of paramount importance in this process and major emphasis is placed on career advising. Agricultural Education offers course work that serves teachers and leaders in agriculture. The M.S, M.Agr., M.A.T., and M.A.I.S. degrees may be pursued with an emphasis in leadership, communication, pedagogy, extension and/or technical agriculture. Candidates work with an adviser to develop programs that meet their specific needs as indicated by their occupational objectives. FACULTY/STAFF ADVISING GENERAL AGRICULTURE AGRICULTURE EDUCATION ... History and General Operations General Information Strategic Geologic Mapping The Mined Land Regulation and Reclamation Program (MLRR) Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources ... DOGAMI Staff General Information
The most widely recognized product of the department is the creation of geologic maps. These maps are valuable tools for a variety of uses, including describing the general geology and geologic history of an area, locating potential mineral resources, identifying geologic hazards, and providing essential information for groundwater studies.
The ongoing scientific study of hazards and the information generated from those studies is also important in helping Oregonians understand the risks faced from earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and other hazards. This information is shared through traditional paper maps, digital maps, academic reports, exhibits, workshops, conferences, websites, and public presentations.
DOGAMI has also helped develop important partnerships and programs among business, industry, local government and citizens to help reduce the risk Oregonians face from natural hazards. Oregon has been designated a "Showcase State" by the Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) because of our efforts in understanding and mitigating our hazards.
Geologic hazards
Effective preparation for chronic and catastrophic geologic hazards requires knowledge and understanding of local geology and geologic processes. As part of this hazards mitigation program, the department studies and maps geologic hazards, informs governments and the public about the hazards, and works actively to reduce future loss of life and property.
