  • On a nationwide basis, approximately 3/4 of the college work of a preservice teacher is taken outside a school, department, of college of education. Thus, it is very important to identify potential preservice teachers before they enter a teacher education program that is, while they are Pre-Education majors. Good advising for these students can contribute significantly to their success in getting into a teacher education program, graduating from such a program, and then getting a teaching job. Such advising can help point Pre-Education majors toward well taught courses that are making good use of IT. Teacher education programs vary substantially in the nature and extent of IT knowledge and skills required of their students. They vary tremendously in the IT-oriented and IT-using courses that are required and/or available to students. Both of these situations provide opportunities for improving the IT education of students in a preservice teacher education program.

Fifteen years ago Heritage Adoption Services, an adoptive-parent-led private NONPROFIT 501(c)3 adoption agency came into existence, with our home base in Portland, Oregon.
When we began the agency we focused on placing local newborn babies. We emphasized education, counseling and full disclosure of all available information for our domestic, open placements. By placing with adopting families from the Pacific Northwest Canada and the United Kingdom, we learned a great deal about how to provide the very BEST international services.
Our agency has always believed in the value of a forever home for ALL children, regardless of the transracial and trans-cultural politics of the day. There are thousands of waiting children. There are many, many parents who would love to adopt. There are numerous families interested in open adoption. Today there are parents who desire to adopt, but are frankly afraid. There are flocks of prospective adoptive parents longing to understand the dynamics of a well thought out adoption. Heritage strives to provide the best care throughout the adoption process. We are vitally interested in life-long education and support which is the anchor of the agency.

    Oregon Lottery:
    It does good things
As the state has grown and times have changed, Lottery dollars have been directed to help where they are needed. Oregonians have voted to use Lottery profits for the things that make Oregon a great place to live.
In 1984, the Oregon Lottery was created by a vote of the people of Oregon. At that time, Lottery dollars were approved to help strengthen Oregon's economy and to create jobs.
In 1995, Oregonians voted to allow Lottery profits to help finance public education. Currently about two thirds of Lottery dollars help fund this critical public service. Lottery profits provide direct support to local school districts funding, books, staff, utilities and other essential services.
In 1998, Oregonians again responded to the changing needs of our state, voting to direct 15% of all Lottery profits to help our parks and salmon habitats.
