Description
In Oregon, raising healthy children is everyone's business. The statewide campaign, Oregon's Child: Everyone's Business, is spreading that message and is motivating businesses, communities, and families to take action. The goal of the campaign is to promote the healthy development of young children. To achieve this goal, the campaign uses the latest brain research to educate the public about the critical first years of life. Oregon's Child: Everyone's Business also distributes lists of simple things that individuals, businesses, and communities can do to make a difference in children's lives. The campaign also publicizes the work of successful programs that connect families with needed services and resources. Partners Oregon's Child: Everyone's Business is a statewide collaboration of more than a dozen public and private organizations. The Oregon Commission on Children and Families coordinate the campaign. Other partners include:

US State Government Aid The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for most state loan, grant and scholarship programs, in addition to the federal loans and grants. When you submit the FAFSA to the US Department of Education, they forward the information on the form to the state student assistance agency. Each state has a different FAFSA submission deadline. If you submit your FAFSA by March 1, you will be in time for all state deadlines, other than Michigan. If you miss the deadline, you will be ineligible to receive state aid for the entire academic year. Procedures for applying for state prepaid tuition programs and the national guard differ from state to state. The amount of information provided on the state web sites varies from state to states. Some states provide comprehensive information about residency requirements , loan, grant, scholarship and prepaid tuition programs and other state aid programs. Others provide minimal information. Guarantee Agencies Federal student loans are extremely low risk loans, as compared with other types of unsecured loans, in part because the Federal government guarantees them against default. This section of FinAid provides information about student loan guarantee agencies, also referred to as student loan guarantors and student loan guaranty agencies. Guarantee agencies insure student loans against default. The 1% guarantee fee that is collected from each disbursement is paid to the designated guarantee agency to cover the costs of insuring the loan. (Some guarantee agencies have built up enough of a reserve that they are able to waive or reduce the guarantee fee.) If the borrower defaults, dies or becomes totally and permanently disabled, the guarantee agency reimburses the lender for the balance remaining on the loan. Overview Direction Service is a multi-program family support agency located in Eugene, Oregon. Our mission is to "assist people with disabilities and special needs to live the fullest lives possible." We are a private non-profit corporation celebrating our 28th year of providing outstanding services to exceptional individuals and families. We got our start in 1977 at the University of Oregon under a five-year Bureau of Education For The Handicapped demonstration grant. In 1982 Direction Service left the University to establish itself as an independent agency, developing and growing a broad base of local and federal support. Critical funding comes from United Way, Lane Education Service District, and Lane County Human Service Commission. We place a premium on involving people with disabilities in every level of the agency's decision making structure, including members of our board of directors, paid employees and volunteers. Direction Service presently has four major programs: Information Services Counseling Center and Assessment Center , and Consortium for Appropriate Dispute Resolution in Special Education

The mission of Education Service Districts is based on the premise that cooperation is not only possible but desirable, and that one agency can provide services to several other agencies in a cost effective, competent manner so as to minimize duplication. This ESD serves as the administrative agent for more than 40 state and federal projects throughout Marion, Polk, and Yamhill counties. The resources are carefully applied to the benefit of school districts, statewide programs, and in substantial quantity, other service districts in the area. Special education programs, cooperative purchasing, audio-visual services, testing, migrant education, and administrative work could be accomplished in all local school districts, but where economy of scale makes for efficient or better quality the Education Service District provides the means. State Department of Education Requirements Although all states must comply with the federal provision of No Child Left Behind, many states have programs for mid-career changers individuals who already have a bachelor's degree—that are alternatives to the traditional route to teacher certification. Just as teacher certification requirements differ from state to state, so do alternative certification program offerings. In the State Departments of Education directory, RNT provides resources developed by the National Center for Alternative Certification: a coded list of alternative certification programs offered in each state, and an alternative licensure key that describes details about the types of programs offered by each state.
As this information about alternative certification is subject to change, you will still want to call for the most up-to-date information. Some states offer this information online and others will mail you a packet about state-approved alternative certification programs and requirements.
