This is a great cd from a great musical. The Phantom of The Opera contains some all time classic musical songs that almost everybody knows. If you're a fan of the production then you will love this album as all the songs are here in their full glory performed by the same singers from the musical. There is nothing better than driving to work with this at full volume - it puts you in a good mood for the day ahead!

Koèovné spoloènosti v nej hrávali i opery a operety (napr. Èarostrelec, Barbier zo Sevilly, Krásna Helena a pod.). Hrávalo sa v nemeckom jazyku, neskôr (hlavne od roku 1867) v maïarskom. Slovenèina až do roku 1919 v divadle nezaznela.

    28 November 2004
Sunday 28 November 2004 17:45-18:30 (Radio 3) Are Musicals the solution? Those who moan about the death of Broadway and the decline of London's West End are ignoring the facts: business is bigger than ever. Over the past few years a healthy new strand of narrative musicals has developed beyond the works of Stephen Sondheim to form an important addition to the cultural economy. So how can musicals get it right while other arts are struggling? Is it just a question of massive investment? Or mindless entertainment? Or is there some subtler change in public taste? Duration: 45 minutes Your Comments Mark Lyndon, London No-one really knows the answer, or to quote the immortal Max Bialystock:"Where did I go right?"  John Timperley Although I have been a songwriter for a long time, it took me a long time to tackle a stage musical project. Reflecting what Don has said on many occasions, I was mindful that if you don't have a good book, you don't have a good musical. Many great songwriters (including the two who created BEAUTIFUL AND DAMNED mentioned by Don last night), have discovered to their cost that great songs alone, do not make for success. Indeed, when I saw the first excellent PRODUCTION of BEAUTIFUL AND DAMNED, I forecast that an alert reviewer would re-title it BEAUTIFUL BUT DAMNED. It makes me very sad when this happens. Lately, I have been brushing up my book writing (for stage musicals), and that will be the way forward. But despite having a good book, you need all the other attrubutes to be right, including good timing.

What is the difference between opera and musicals? Musicals are plays with music; the music is incidental and the action is advanced mainly through dialogue. "No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible." - W H Auden. What is operetta? Why is opera so special? How old is opera and where did it come from? Traditionally, operas began with an overture. Usually, but not invariably, the overture will introduce the audience to themes which will be taken up and used later in the opera. Because of this, some composers write the overture last! The most important opera composers 17th Century: Cavalli, Scarlatti, Lully, Rameau

Model Mark Tomasic In this heartbreaking tale of unrequited love, timing is everything. A brash and selfish young Eugene Onegin coolly rebuffs the beautiful Tatyana only to fall in love with her at their next meeting seven years later. Although her feelings for him are still strong, Tatyana refuses to break her marriage vows. Onegin is dismissed; miserable at all he has lost. Tchaikovsky's sweeping arias and colorful music fill the seven lyric scenes of Eugene Onegin with the grandeur, splendor and romance of Czarist Russia.
