    Home Oman Government monarchy Definition
This entry gives the basic form of government. Definitions of the major governmental terms are as follows:
Anarchy - a condition of lawlessness or political disorder brought about by the absence of governmental authority.
Commonwealth - a nation, state, or other political entity founded on law and united by a compact of the people for the common good.
Communism - a system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single - often authoritarian - party holds power; state controls are imposed with the elimination of private ownership of property or capital while claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people (i.e., a classless society).
Confederacy (Confederation) - a union by compact or treaty between states, provinces, or territories, that creates a central government with limited powers; the constituent entities retain supreme authority over all matters except those delegated to the central government.
Constitutional - a government by or operating under an authoritative document (constitution) that sets forth the system of fundamental laws and principles that determines the nature, functions, and limits of that government.

Microsoft shows commitment to Oman Government targets to localize IT industry
Microsoft Oman is demonstrating its commitment to nationalization, with the announcement that more than half the company's workforce in the Sultanate is made up of Omani nationals.
      Oman: Saturday, February 05 - 2005 at 12:32 GMT+4
Nawal Al Jamali, Ziad Abdullatif, Sami Al Lawati, Fawzi A-Harrassy
sponsored link What is a sponsored TextLink? Last week the National Economy Minister Ahmed bin Abdulnabi Macki announced that the government of Oman was considering setting a target of 25% localization of the IT industry by 2008. In 2002, just 7% of IT sector personnel were Omanis.
Microsoft employs Omani nationals in a wide range of roles at its Muscat office, with the Oman operation being led by an Omani national, Sami Al Lawati, Business Development Manager, Oman.
'The level of Omanization that we have achieved in Microsoft is something which I am very proud of,' said Al Lawati. 'Microsoft is dedicated to working with the Government of Oman to help it achieve its aims of including our people in the economy, and in the knowledge economy in particular, and we are very pleased that we can lead the way in localization of the IT industry. As a company, we continue to expand our operations in Oman, and the hard work of our Omani employees is one of the main reasons that we have been able to expand so rapidly.'

Gulf Air backs 'BEST' and Oman Government's on-going tourism drive
With Gulf Air's recovery gathering momentum, the airline is well placed to provide even greater support to Oman's tourism drive according to Luke Medley, Vice President - Services for Gulf Air.
      Bahrain: Thursday, February 10 - 2005 at 09:23 GMT+4
Gulf Air is official airline and a main sponsor for the Built Environment for Sustainable Tourism in Oman.
sponsored link What is a sponsored TextLink? Mr Medley was speaking to government officials and other guests at the official dinner to welcome delegates to the first Built Environment for Sustainable Tourism (BEST), taking place in Muscat from 5 to 8 February and for which Gulf Air is official airline and a main sponsor.
'Things are looking good for Gulf Air in 2005 and the airline is virtually unrecognizable to the one I joined just over two years ago,' he said. 'We have worked hard on a wide range of initiatives and programmes not only to change the airline, but also to promote the economic development of the region, most specifically in the development of tourism. We will continue to do so in close collaboration with all the relevant government departments and tourism authorities in Oman and across the region to ensure the long term sustainability of such programmes.'
'We realized that to be successful in the service industry, change was a necessity, ' he added. ' We also realized that if we were to take our business forward we had to adapt, identify the gaps in operations, as we - and the customer - embarked on a journey of change. And what a change it has been!'
