Records
Libro d'Oro The meeting is dedicated to the memory of Constantinos Tsiklitiras , a Panellinios's Athletic Club athlete, who won 4 medals in two consecutive Olympic Games. Constantinos Tsiklitiras was born in 1888 in Pylos of the Peloponnese and became famouse for participating in jumping events.
His height (1.92m) added to his extraordinary performance in high jump and standing long jump.
During the Olympic Games held in London in 1908, he won the silver medal for the standing long jump at 3.33m and the silver medal for the standing high jump at 1.57. Four years later at the Olympic Games held in Stockholm in 1912, he won the gold medal for the standing long jump at 3.37m and third for the standing high jump at 1.60m. Since 1912 he held the best record in the world for the standing long jump at 3.47m.
He died in 1913 at the young age of 25 years. The games dedicated to the memory of Constantinos Tsiklitiras acquired great success during the decade of 1970 as Olympic games winners and athletes with world records competed in these meetings.

History of Diving
Introduction
The history of competitive diving spans roughly 100 years. During this period the nature of diving has changed dramatically. Junior divers now routinely perform dives once banned at the Olympic Games. A report following the IV Olympiad suggested elimination of the double somersault, because it was believed that a diver could not control the execution without risk of injury! At the World Masters Championships , women in the 50-59 age group springboard competition are currently required to do 8 dives - the same number as the women athletes in the Olympics of 1948.
Gold medallist, Dorothy Poynton of the USA, performing a swan dive in the 1932 Olympics Diving originated from people amusing themselves by jumping and diving from natural features (rocks and cliffs) or from structures built for other purposes (piers and bridges); early swimming and diving clubs were based on ponds. In particular, travellers reported amazing feats performed by natives diving from the cliffs in Acapulco, Mexico and in Hawaii. Origins of competitive diving In the early nineteenth century, the only 'dive' was a simple plunge, similar to that used by swimmers. The diver springs from the bathside and aims to travel as far as possible under water. In Britain National Plunging Championships were held from 1883 to 1937 - but continue to this day in Yorkshire.

It is one of several ITF initiatives to promote Olympic Tennis. Many past and present tennis champions along with officials from the International Olympic Committee, the British Olympic Association, the International Tennis Federation and the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games showed their support by attending the launch.
IOC member and British Olympic Association President Mr Craig Reedie said of the Club: "Olympic medallists are very special. Tennis brings many assets to the Olympics and it is good news that an international federation recognises its Olympic and Paralympic athletes in this Club."
As part of the launch each of the medallists in attendance was presented with a special pin signifying membership of the Olympic Medallists Club. Afterwards, they spoke of their pride in being a member of this elite club.

The Paralympic Summer and Winter Games are the ultimate competition for world-class elite athletes with a physical disability and as such are linked to the Olympic Celebration each quadrennium. The fundamental philosophy guiding the Paralympic Movement is that athletes with disabilities should have opportunities to pursue their goals in sport equivalent to those of non-disabled athletes. Athletes who compete in the Paralympics set their sights on winning Paralympic gold and are committed to strenuous training regimes. They must also meet strict qualifying standards to be selected to their national teams. The Paralympic Games represent a commitment to excellence that allows elite athletes to achieve their personal best. The Paralympic Games exemplify the Olympic ideal of participation and sportsmanship.

These ancient games lasted for nearly 1,000 years but stopped when Greece was invaded and conquered and became part of the Roman Empire. The games as we know it today began again in the late 1800's, when Baron Pierre de Coubertin of France, decided to start them up again. The first of the modern games was held in Athens, Greece in 1896. Amazing facts about the games
  • In ancient times only free males were allowed to participate in the games.
  • Females were forbidden to even see the games, the penalty for watching was death!
  • Milo, a 6th century B.C. wrestler won the wrestling crown six times.
  • The Hoplitodrome was a footrace where the participants ran in armour.
  • In A.D. 394 the then Roman emperor Theodosius 1 ordered that the games be stopped.
