Colossal head, Olmec culture, Mexico.
"It is perfectly possible to find individuals in Tabasco today who have faces not unlike those of the colossal heads, whose features also somewhat recall the large stone carvings of the Cham cultures of Cambodia, another country that still has a Negroid aboriginal population." The quote is from Nigel Davies, The Ancient Kingdoms of Mexico - a Penguin book available online at Amazon or Davies is not suggesting that these monuments are portraits of Africans who came to ancient Mexico as conquerors or shipwrecked sailors, as is sometimes theorized. In fact, he sees no reason to doubt that they were carved by Native Americans. That some Mexican ancestors had facial features we associate with Africa is no suprise. Many scientists believe that all human beings descend from a common ancestress who lived in Africa. As Davies says, "Negroid peoples of many kinds are to found in Asia as well as Africa, and there is no reason why at least a few of them should not have joined those migrant bands who came across the Bering land bridge that joined north-east Asia and north-west America for so many millennia."

The beginnings
There is evidence of human existence in México since 20,000 years BC. In Tepéxpan to the North of the Valley of México, the remains of a human corpse were found beside those of a mammoth. Using the Carbon 14 test, these remains were dated at approximately 10,000 years BC. Agriculture began to manifest itself from the year 3,000 BC.
The American continent was isolated during many centuries, which explains the originality of its civilisation. Northern México was populated by peoples who lived from hunting and collecting in a desert or semi-desert geographical environment. The South was populated by agricultural societies.
Eventhough in the vast Mesoamerica region (a term used by scholars to designate peoples which occupied the central area of México down to Guatemala and Honduras to the South), many different peoples with their own ethnic and linguistic differences coexisted, they had a cultural homogeneity, for instance they cultivated corn, they have a singular structure of government, they used the 365 day calendar, they built pyramids, they used similar rituals and worshiped the same gods and goddesses of the sky, of nature, of fertility and of war. The same concept of cosmic duality - the beginning and the end - appears in the religion and art of all Mesoamerican cultures. The most evident example of this cosmic duality is the god Quetzalcoatl (or Kukulkán in the Mayan area) which is represented by a feathered serpent (earth and sky).

(Right) This is another Olmec jade, dating from approximately 1150 BC, from Honduras. The Hamitic / Phoenician characteristics of these objects are realized by many European scholars, but because of their "white" supremacist paradigm, they theorize that these are representations of the slaves of the Phoenician navigators and not the Phoenicians themselves. This would be the first instance in history of slave masters going to such an extant to honor their "slaves". Honors such as cutting stones from quarries, some weighing up to 60 tons, carving representations of their slaves and then transporting them 60 miles to the locations where they were found. Hmmmm.
(Right) Olmec stela, 1500-1000 BC La Venta Mexico. The Olmecs carved stela recording important events, just like their brothers and cousins on the Nile, and the other river and coastal civilizations. Moor means navigator, as in mariner and mer-maid (Moorish-maiden ).

http://history-world.org/ancient_civilization.htm
ANCIENT CIVILIZATIONS the requirements and patterns to development The Ancient City of Jericho  The term civilization basically means the level of development at which people live together peacefully in communities. Ancient civilization refers specifically to the first settled and stable communities that became the basis for later states, nations, and empires. The study of ancient civilization is concerned with the earliest segments of the much broader subject called ancient history. The span of ancient history began with the invention of writing in about 3100 BC and lasted for more than 35 centuries. Mankind existed long before the written word, but writing made the keeping of a historical record possible. The first ancient societies arose in Mesopotamia and Egypt in the Middle East, in the Indus Valley region of modern Pakistan, in the Huang He (Yellow River) valley of China, on the island of Crete in the Aegean Sea, and in Central America. All of these civilizations had certain features in common. They built cities, invented forms of writing, learned to make pottery and use metals, domesticated animals, and created fairly complex social structures with class systems. Apart from written records and carved inscriptions, the knowledge about ancient peoples is derived from the work of archaeologists. Most of the significant archaeological findings have been made in the past 200 years. The Sumerian culture of Mesopotamia was discovered in the 1890s, and some of the most important archaeological digs in China were made after the late 1970s.

Art Historian Since the appearance of the Olmec culture, considered to be the “mother of the Mesoamerican cultures”, ceramics took a prevailing place in the lives of the Mexican people. The earthenware vessels, anthropomorphic figures, and various types of utensils found in the archaeological ruins of the ancient Olmec cities of Tajin San Lorenzo La Venta and Tres Zapotes , suggest the techniques used in their ceramics: the use of clay, the knowledge of some primitive firing techniques, their means of coloring and painting designs. The Olmecs transcended their era (1500 B.C. –800 A.D) and bequeathed their knowledge to the cultures that flourished after them. The Teotihuacans (100 B.C. – 800 A.D.) prepared the majority of their vessels with clay and decorated them with a variety of techniques:

In other words, is there any credible evidence that can be used to determine where the Book of Mormon peoples lived? Criteria Before we can respond to the question of where the people of the Book of Mormon lived out their lives, we must first set parameters which will allow others to analyze the process of discovery and conclusions. For example, if we use the Book of Mormon as a control text we can arrive at several requirements for any comparative study with other ancient civilizations. These requirements include, 1) evidence of

Our trip to Nanciyaga Ecological Park in February 2004 gave us the opportunity
to see the beautiful park at Catamaco in southern Veracruz, Mexico at a cool
time when few tourists break the silence of the selva (the jungle). From the
launch that sped us across the peaceful blue Catamaco lake, we disembarked
on a wooden dock that led to one entrance to this unusual place.
Nanciyaga is located at the confluence of a grand mineral spring and the lake itself,
feeding its precious fresh waters into the lake that fills extinct volcanic craters of the
Los Tuxtlas mountain range. Ingenious owners have developed jungle paths to take
the visitor (with a local guide) into an adventure into the history of the ancient Olmec
cultures. If ¨theme parks¨ have an odious history, this one is completely exceptional
for its natural tropical setting, its references to an ancient and forgotten way of life
