Seventh Ave., Stillwater, OK 74074 (405) 743-5109 Bulgarian Delegation Studies Oklahoma's Vocational System The outstanding reputation of Oklahoma's vocational system drew a delegation of Bulgarian vocational educators here to pick up ideas on how to grow their economy. The seven Bulgarians spent May 11 and 12, visiting several locations in Oklahoma including the Oklahoma Department of Vo-Tech Education, Meridian Technology Center, MerCruiser, Central Tech in Drumright and Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee. Bulgaria is a former Eastern Bloc country once politically and economically aligned with the former Soviet Union. The former communist nation has spent most of the 1990s trying to convert from a state-controlled economy to a more open, capitalist economy. Milka Lubenova Daskalova, director of Vocational Training Policy in the National Employment Service of the Bulgarian Department of Labor, said Bulgaria is interested in implementing a "quick start" training program to improve the level of technical workers.
