Set in the heart of downtown Muskogee, Oklahoma, First Presbyterian Church is home to one of the larger Presbyterian congregations in Northeastern Oklahoma.
Even so, First Presbyterian Church offers a warm, welcoming home through the ministry of our many caring members. If you were to visit our church on any given day, you might encounter a group of women preparing the tables for the monthly women's luncheon meeting… or a group of rambunctious kid's getting ready to go home after rehearsing a play or learning to care for their church and community during Kingdom Club … or a group of excited teenagers returning from an overnight retreat. Each of these groups and many others are part of First Presbyterian Church.
As the established church in Muskogee, we have continued to be a strong and visible spiritual presence. Ours is a loyal and loving congregation, family oriented and proud of our Presbyterian heritage . We seek to be an informed church, emphasizing education and the dedication of talents to God's Holy purposes.

Fishing With An Attitude!
Shortnose Gar Record Broken
Terry Terrence arrowed a new state record shortnose gar weighing four pounds, 12.8-ounces.
Terry’s record was verified in the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s unrestricted category for legal fishing methods other than rod and line. “We go upstream by airboat from the Three Forks (confluence of the Verdigris, Arkansas and Neosho rivers near Muskogee), into areas where the gar are surfacing,” said Terry.
Upon being measured by Monte Ried, state game warden stationed in Rogers/Mayes county, Terry’s fish measured 31 inches long with a girth measurement of 10.25 inches.
Terry took up bowfishing as a hobby some 30 years ago and it’s his favorite summer pastime. To land the new record, Terry used a Zebco Brute 270 bowreel spooled with 80-pound test line.
Terry’s record may not stand up for long. Only some 40 days earlier, the prior state record for shortnose gar in the unrestricted category was set with a 3-pound, 3.8-ounce fish taken by bowfisherman Dale Starry from the Red River June 12.

194. CNN - Oklahoma City Bombing Trial
Articles, video, verdicts and transcripts of the trial plus biographies of McVeigh and Nichols.
http://www.cnn.com/US/9703/okc.trial/
D ifferent trials, different verdicts. In June 1997, a jury convicted Timothy McVeigh of bombing the Oklahoma City federal building, a terrorist attack that left 168 people dead. But the verdict for McVeigh's former army buddy Terry Nichols who was tried on the same 11 accounts was less straightforward. On December 23, a jury, after deliberating 41 hours, refused to convict Nichols of murder, instead finding him guilty of involuntary manslaughter and of conspiring with McVeigh. Nichols escaped the death penalty because the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict on whether he was planning an attack "with the intent to kill." Nearly six months later, Nichols was sentenced by a federal judge to spend the rest of his life in prison.
