The Cross Timbers RESOURCE BOOK Many Oklahomans are not familiar with the Cross Timbers as a geographic region. Historically, however, the term was well understood by travelers entering the western portions of Arkansas Territory faced with the need to traverse the entangled scrubby oak woodlands of what was later to become central Oklahoma. Geographically, the Cross Timbers acted as a buffer separating the Five Civilized Tribes of Indian Territory from the Plains Indians of the west, diverting most major trails and the early railroad routes to north and south corridors outside the region, and influencing the pre-statehood arrangement of Indian and Oklahoma territories. This resource book is designed to help you teach about the Cross Timbers regionthe largest vegetation area in Oklahoma. The Cross Timbers project and this resource guide have been funded through a grant from the National Geographic Society's Oklahoma Geography Education Fund ( www.nationalgeographic.com/education The Cross Timbers Resource book was too large to place on our web site in html format. It has been converted to an Adobe PDF file and can be viewed with your Adobe Acrobat Reader.

27. Facts About OKLAHOMA GAME WARDENS For Young Outdoor Enthusiasts
This exam consists of 100 questions covering the state and federal wildlife lawsand regulations, oklahoma geography, biological and environmental sciences
http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/okgamewarden.htm
Facts about OKLAHOMA GAME WARDENS for young outdoor enthusiasts Game Wardens are some of the most recognized members of the wildlife conservation team in Oklahoma. A Game Warden’s primary job is to enforce the fish and wildlife laws of the state. These laws ensure that only the legal number of wildlife and fish are harvested each year by licensed hunters and anglers. When someone breaks a wildlife law, they are hurting the future of hunting and fishing in our state. Game Wardens do not enjoy arresting violators, but performing this necessary duty is a vital tool in conserving and managing Oklahoma’s wildlife. Every “game hog” or careless violator poses a threat to the resource and enjoyment of others. Sportsmen and women pay for the right to enjoy their sport in Oklahoma by buying hunting and fishing licenses. Game Wardens are public servants sworn to protect wildlife and the public’s interests in the outdoors. A Warden’s day is busy and rewarding! In addition to enforcing laws, Game Wardens have many other duties that bring them in daily contact with people. They start some of their days well before sunrise, helping biologists in their study of wildlife or fisheries problems. From such studies comes the information that will be used to set season dates and bag limits for hunting and fishing seasons in Oklahoma.

What do geographers do?
The spatial perspective of geographers is in demand in a wide variety of fields. Here is just a sample. Area Specialist: geographers with considerable knowledge of particular countries and their cultures bring their expertise and understanding of issues to US foreign policy, international development, and international business. Such geographers have often complemented their major in geography by developing a proficiency in a foreign language and by having taken advanced coursework in anthropology, history, economics, and/or political science. As professionals, area specialists may interpret information from the foreign media, intelligence reports, and aerial photography and then brief diplomats, investors, businessmen, and policymakers in a variety of governmental and private agencies, such as the US State Department, the Central Intelligence Agency, World Bank, and increasingly companies with business overseas. If this type of work sounds interesting, consider our general geography concentration Environmental manager, technician, advocate, or analyst:

Sharing our Heritage Across the Globe Israel - Oklahoma Geography The state of Israel is very far away from Oklahoma. But as far away as Israel the land is, to the Jewish people, Israel is also a people as well as a country. As Jews we are united by our values, our heritage, our Torah. And we also are united by a bond to our homeland, Eretz Israel. In order to learn about and understand Israel, we need first to know where we live in relation to other places and those things about our own home that we want to know about Israel. Then we will proceed too study some of the same things about Israel. So here we go. Contents Credits Using this Workbook North America

From Representation to Discovery of Geographic Dynamics in GIS Databases
Fri, October 10, 2003 from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm Admission: Free Doheny Memorial Library (DML) University Park Campus As part of the USC geography department public lecture series, University of Oklahoma geography professor May Yuan presents a GIS representation framework to meet the challenge of query support on geographic intelligence. The representation is based on hierarchy theory developed by ecologists to examine processes across spatial and temporal scales. Hierarchy theory provides working principles to examine dynamics in a complex system. These principles suggest not only how to observe and analyze a complex system but also how to interpret organizational structures and mechanisms in space and time. The proposed GIS representation framework organizes geospatial data according to hierarchy theory principles to detect geographic dynamics embedded in geospatial data that are acquired routinely through sensor networks.
