Oklahoma Genealogy
Oklahoma Genealogy is being developed as a genealogical and historical resource for your personal use. While the original thought was to provide this website as a resource for finding genealogy and historical data concerning Oklahoma on the web, we have begun adding specific data to this site for your personal use.
In an attempt to further expand our offerings and refine your search, we have begun the creation of county websites. Those county sites can be found in the list of links to the right. While only a small portion of Oklahoma counties are presently listed, the amount of data for those counties is quite impressive.
The "Search Oklahoma Genealogy" search on the right side will search all of the Oklahoma Genealogy website, but will not search the data linked to from our offsite data pages. That body of land formerly designated Indian Territory is located but a few miles south of the geographical center of the United States. It was a part of the Louisiana purchase by which the United States in 1804 acquired from France about nine hundred thousand square miles of land adjoining the Mississippi River on the west, for the sum of $15,000,000, or slightly more than two and one-half cents per acre.
This region was practically unknown at that time to the people of the United States and many New England citizens regarded it as a doubtful bargain. The Mississippi River was then regarded as the western boundary of civilization, and beyond the settlements at St. Louis and New Orleans, the whole region was thought to be but a barren waste, fit only for hunting grounds for the wandering bands of blood-thirsty Indians.
