Tips For Applying
Managing the Cost of College
Saving for college and investigating financial aid options are important steps in planning for college. F ortunately, there are many types of programs that provide financial assistance for college, or "financial aid," to help you and your family manage the cost.
Financial aid includes scholarships, grants, work-study and loans. To become eligible for financial aid assistance, some scholarships and grants require you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and others require you to sign up while still in middle school and agree to meet certain requirements in high school. Check out the links on the left to get more information on financial aid and financial planning opportunities. URGENT Scam Alert From U.S. Department of Education There is no ED program to replace loans with grants, and there is no processing fee to obtain Title IV grants from ED. Furthermore, students should never provide their bank account or credit card information over the phone unless they initiated the call and trust the company they are calling. A student who is a victim of this or a similar scam should take the following steps:
  • Immediately contact your bank, explain the situation and request that the bank monitor or close the compromised account.

THE UNIVERSITY In 1890, seventeen years before Oklahoma became a state, the University of Oklahoma was founded upon authority of an act of the first legislature of the Territory of Oklahoma. The act stated the purpose of the University was "to provide the means of acquiring a thorough knowledge of the various branches of learning connected with scientific, industrial, and professional pursuits." Students were accepted for the first time in the fall of 1892, and the first two graduates received the degree of pharmaceutical chemist in 1896. Two years later the first two bachelor of arts degrees were awarded. The first master?s degree was conferred in 1900, the first degree of doctor of medicine in 1911, and the first doctoral degree in 1929. The main campus of the University of Oklahoma is located in Norman, near the center of the state, and is composed of the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Environmental Design, Fine Arts, Geosciences, Law, Liberal Studies, and the University College (the freshman division). The Health Sciences Center campus in Oklahoma City has the colleges of Allied Health, Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, and a Graduate College. About Oklahoma City University
From the small class sizes to alumni success stories, many factors define Oklahoma City University's excellence. However, a quality, values-centered education is the centerpiece of The OCU Difference. OCU's professors share a commitment to the success of our students. Although many of our professors conduct research and publish in academic and trade journals, their number one priority is teaching students. Professors with the highest academic credentials in their fields teach most of our classes, and none is taught by graduate or teaching assistants. Our students have daily access to their professors and plenty of individual attention.
The OCU Difference is also apparent in our campus life. OCU is small enough for you to feel a sense of community but large enough to offer the full university experience. Our campus sits in the heart of a major metropolitan area, amid historic neighborhoods, near the State Capitol Building complex, and close to downtown attractions and the Bricktown entertainment district. Entertainment, museums, restaurants, and shops are all nearby. Opportunities on campus for cultural enrichment abound, including concerts, plays, and world-renowned speakers. The University continues to improve facilities and services to accommodate our students. This year, the Student Senate moved into new offive space in the C.Q. Smith Student Faculty Center. And, of course, the beautifully landscaped grounds make life at OCU a pleasure, providing an inviting space for quiet study or the odd football or soccer game on the lawn.
