GENERAL INFORMATION (OUHSC) THE UNIVERSITY In 1890, seventeen years before Oklahoma became a state, the University of Oklahoma was founded upon authority of an act of the first legislature of the Territory of Oklahoma. Students were accepted for the first time in the fall of 1892, and the first two graduates received the degree of pharmaceutical chemist in 1896. The first master?s degree was conferred in 1900, the first degree of doctor of medicine in 1911, and the first doctoral degree in 1929. The main campus of the University of Oklahoma is located in Norman, near the center of the state, and is composed of the colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Environmental Design, Fine Arts, Geosciences, Law, Liberal Studies, and the University College (the freshman division).
