School and Your Move
Consider the quality of the school system when choosing the location of your new home, and try to match your child with the right school. The Roland Homes neighborhood developments are located in some of the area’s most highly regarded public school districts. There are also a number of private and parochial schools and academies that may be right for your student. Proximity to top-rated school systems increases your property values. Ease The Transition
When you know where you will be moving, there are some steps you can take to help make your child's move easier.
  • As soon as you can, make contact with the new school to get accurate registration information. You will need a birth certificate and possibly a physical exam accompanied by certain immunizations. Get the correct dates for orientation and schedule your appointment. Be sure you have all academic credit transfer information and get started on the transfer before you reach your new location. Another very important item on the registration list is establishing all the sign-up deadlines and requirements necessary for the sports or other activities in which your child may want to participate.

AIDS Coordination and Information Services
The AIDS Coordination and Information Services (ACIS) program provides a central contact point for persons with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and their families to obtain information on a variety of health care and social services needs. The ACIS program coordinates HIV/AIDS-related activities within the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) and provides assistance to various OKDHS divisions. ACIS oversees statewide operation of the HIV/AIDS Case Management Program for OKDHS. Case management is provided through professional care coordinators located in Tulsa, Oklahoma City and Lawton who are trained to assist HIV-infected persons in accessing needed services. Care coordinators provide information and referral, client assessment, advocacy and intervention, access to contract services and follow-up services to ensure the client is receiving needed services. These staff are also involved in the development and coordination of community resources to fill gaps and eliminate duplication of services. There are no income or resource restrictions for case management services. HIV infection is the only eligibility criterion and referrals are accepted from any location in the state.

"In Dustin we found what is best in all of us: kindness, generosity, gentleness, humor, enthusiasm, and joy. For us, he is proof that including 'special' children in the regular classroom benefits the education of all children." Alden R. Carter "Second-grader Dustin is anticipating an exciting day at school because eagerly awaited guests are coming at two o'clock. But until their arrival, Dustin must get through most of the school day, which in his case, because of his specific learning needs, means not only music, language arts, recess, lunch, library time, and science but also speech and occupational therapies and special reading and math classes. "Vibrant full-color photos follow Dustin through his day, showing the activities, the interactions with friends, and the learning experiences enjoyed by this active child. Finally, two o'clock arrives, along with Dave, the ventriloquist, and his wooden pal, Skippy, who delight their school audience.

Education in Oklahoma City is very different from the time when parents' only option was to send their child to the school assigned through an attendance plan. Today, Oklahoma City Public Schools offers parents a choice in the style of education their child receives. Who better to decide a child's educational path than the people who know the child best.
Parents can choose the school closest to their home, or they can choose a school that uses an emphasis or theme to excite children's interest in school. They can also choose a school where parents and community leaders map the students' curriculum and activities. Each of these choices gives students a unique educational experience and the opportunity to succeed.
OCPS believes the success of our students includes the involvement of parents and the community. These different choices provide new responsibilities and challenges that excite both students and parents.
Attendance Zone Schools
Attendance Zone Schools are comprised of students who reside in a particular area and these schools are typically the closest to a student's home. The quality education is based on the traditional model, with a focus on core subjects and giving the students a well-rounded education. There are 74 Attendance Zone Schools around the district.

Outstanding Teacher of Students Who Are Blind and Visually Impaired
Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired Carol has begun her 28th year at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and is in her 32nd year of teaching. She has taught home economics and career education courses and is famous for her creative and fun learning activities no matter what course she's teaching. These include the Style Show Assembly (where students have modeled the clothes they have created), her Egg Baby Activity (where students must care around the clock for their boiled egg offspring to simulate parenting responsibilities) and Mock Weddings with all the trimmings. She is a mentor to colleagues and a leader on our campus who has been active on our site-based decision-making committee and on her instructional team. Her co-workers also love to attend any meeting sponsored by Carol since it is sure to be well-organized and to have terrific refreshments! Sometimes people that shouldn't even be at the meeting show up! She carries out all of her daily duties with professionalism, attention to detail and good cheer. Listen to what the mother of one of our students wrote about Carol: Doug Rauss
