The Directory of Ohio Libraries includes listings for the State Library, public, academic, institution, special and medical libraries which are updated from information supplied by public, academic, institution, medical and special libraries in Ohio. Dial In Access and Telnet Numbers have been added to the library listings. Public library directory listings are based on information from annual reports and/or updates received throughout the year. Each library is listed by the name of the city in which the main library is located. Branches open 15 hours or more per week are listed under the main library. Libraries which have names not reflecting the city of location are indexed by name before the library listings. The directory listing shows the name of the director, board president and clerk-treasurer. If the library director is also the clerk-treasurer, the name is not repeated for the clerk-treasurer's position. There are 250 public libraries organized under Ohio law. There are 18 Associations (A) , 3 County (C) , 53 County District (CD) , 20 Municipal (M) , 152 School District (SD) and 4 Township (T) libraries.

January 1999 Congratulations to Ohio Public Library Information Network (OPLIN)
OPLIN
is a great example of what can be done when libraries within a state work together. The site offers easy access to Ohio libraries, local content, current events resources and a top-notch Web guide for kids. OPLIN arranged and paid for the installation of T-1 lines to all 250 main library buildings in the state and pays the ongoing, monthly telecom charges for these lines. The organization has also made it possible for every patron who visits an Ohio library to access EBSCO, NetWellness, NoveList, Archives USA, Ohio Capitol Connection, Sirs Researcher, Electric Library and Sirs Discoverer free of charge. To top it all off, the site is easy to navigate and pleasing to the eye. The good news doesn't stop there on January 26, a new, improved version of the site will debut. Check back to note the progress!

Local governments are joining together to protect our community resources from any further erosion of the funds that support local government services. This coalition includes: county commissioners, mayors, city councils, public libraries, and park districts. Representatives from each member of the coalition are working together to research the impact of cuts to the local government funds and meet with decision-makers across Ohio to restore funding. Understanding Local Governments The three local government funds are a strong partnership between state and local government to provide essential services to Ohio's citizens. The Library and Local Government Support Fund (LLGSF) benefits Ohio's libraries. The Local Government Fund (LGF) and the Legal Government Revenue Assistance Fund (LGRAF) provide revenue to counties, townships, municipalities, villages, and park districts. State allocations to these funds help reduce the local government's reliance on local property taxes. Historically they were established to partially replace revenue lost as a result of tax reform actions by the General Assembly. These funds provide a revenue-sharing mechanism by which all local governments and libraries share in the cumulative wealth of the state.
