(WCPO/WCPO.com) Ben Brown, Target World (WCPO/WCPO.com) Reported by: Deb Silverman Web produced by: Stacy Puzo Photographed by: 2/27/04 4:45:06 PM When Ohio's concealed weapon law kicks in there are going to be plenty of places you can not carry a gun. It is likely that list is going to include a lot more places than those you have already heard about. The law restricts guns from places like schools, libraries and where alcohol is served. A group people in Butler County learned Friday they too have the right to keep guns off their property. At Target World business has shot up since the concealed weapons bill was signed by Governor Taft. "Our business has probably gone up double with the concealed carry stuff going on whether it's people calling or stopping in shopping," said Ben Brown, Target World. The same thing's happening at law enforcement agencies.

Bill Analyses and Status Report of Legislation are both publications of the Legislative Service Commission ( LSC ) and are available as part of this web site. A Bill Analysis is detailed narrative description of each bill that is scheduled for a hearing in committee, and is updated as the bill moves through the legislative process. LSC also tracks the status of each bill introduced during the General Assembly. The Status Report of Legislation is published weekly during periods in which the General Assembly is in session. The report lists all bills and resolutions introduced in the General Assembly as of the date of issue and their progress through the legislative process as of the end of the preceding week. It lists the dates on which any legislative action was taken on each bill or resolution. LSC performs a fiscal analysis of each bill and prepares a Fiscal Note based on this analysis. Fiscal notes estimate the effects of proposed legislation on state and local government revenues and expenditures. Local impact statements, which are included in fiscal notes, are required for bills that could result in a net additional cost to school districts, counties, municipalities, or townships. The only official publication of the activities of the Senate and House are the Journals of each chamber. The

Amber Lea Gosnell, Class of 2006 Moritz College of Law Introduction For the November 2, 2004 election, Ralph Nader can run as an independent candidate in Ohio by simply meeting the statutory requirements, namely collecting 5000 signatures by August 19, 2004. But Ralph Nader can only run as a party candidate in Ohio, if a political party that chooses Nader as its nominee becomes legally recognized by the state. Ohio currently recognizes only two political partiesDemocratic and Republican. A political party can gain recognition in Ohio law in two ways, either by earning 5% of the vote in a previous election or by meeting certain new party requirements. Once recognized a political party can choose a candidate, and only then can the candidate appear on the election ballot with the party's name listed under the candidate's name.

July 26, 2005
Ohio has entered into a settlement with Craftmatic Organization, Inc., under which the company agreed to reimburse consumers $200,000 based on disputes about the sales practices of Craftmatic and its distributor, J. Kaz Craftmatic Beds. By entering into this order, Craftmatic and J. Kaz agreed to change many of their business practices in order to operate in compliance with the Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act. “My Consumer Protection Section discovered Craftmatic engaged in high-pressure tactics, misleading advertising and claims that the beds would resolve consumers’ medical problems, which were not medically verified,” said Attorney General Jim Petro. “This settlement resolves those issues and my office intends to monitor the company to make sure it continues to comply with Ohio law.” In a complaint filed in Franklin County Common Pleas Court against Craftmatic Organization, Inc. of Trevose, PA, and J KAZ (doing business as Craftmatic of Pittsburgh), of Verona, PA, the attorney general alleged that the companies engaged in false claims of medical benefits, deceptive price comparisons, false advertising, making false or misleading statements, high pressure sales tactics, Home Solicitation Sales Act violations, deceptive warranty practices, direct solicitation violations, bait-and- switch advertising, failure to disclose material financing terms, failure to disclose material contract terms, illegal attorney fee provision in consumer contracts, and unfair and deceptive and unconscionable business practices.
