document.write(day) document.write(monthname[monthnum]) Answers, not links Welcome to Wakeman, Ohio, a small, rural community located in Huron County, just 12 miles south of Lake Erie, and about 45 miles west of Cleveland, Ohio. Huron County is part of the Firelands area of the Connecticut Western Reserve, and is rich with history.
The last several years have seen a growth spurt in the community, because of its closeness to Cleveland, and Elyria in Lorain County. The highway system has grown so that it doesn't take long to get to the bigger cities. The residents have the best of both worlds working in the city, and living in a pleasant, rural community. As you'll see on the business page, just about everything you need is located in the village and surrounding area.
Come in and stay for a while. Learn about Wakeman, then and now. Browse the Reflections of Wakeman pages, and learn all about the Firelands area and how it was developed 200 years ago. Meet some of the people in the area on the personal home pages. Look for your ancestors in the genealogy section, and see links to their pages.
Enjoy yourself and please stop again.

The City of Wadsworth offers the quaintness of a small town, coupled with the sophistication of a community that is progressive enough to offer its own municipally-owned electric utility and high-speed internet and cable services. Residents' activities center around the strong Wadsworth City Schools, which are rated 'excellent' in the State; churches; and numerous civic organizations, including a very active Chamber of Commerce and the recently established Main Street Wadsworth organization. The City is a delightful mix of families who have been part of the community for several generations, younger families who have chosen to 'move back home' to Wadsworth, and new families who have only recently discovered this special city. The 'North End' of the city offers extensive retail stores, including both local and national chains, and continues to expand to serve the needs of this growing population. Visitors and residents can do their shopping at several grocery and pharmaceutical stores, visit one of the many restaurants, and relax at the end of the day by taking in a first-run movie at the local theatre all without leaving Wadsworth. Overnight accommodations are available at three hotels/motels. The East side of Wadsworth features one of the area's last-remaining drive-in movie theaters and several car dealerships. New housing subdivisions on the east side flank the city's new middle school and recently expanded high school. Wadsworth is also

They came to the West Milton area in the later years of the 18th century and the early years of the 19th century, with lots being sold in 1807. The settlement was named Milton after poet John Milton. In 1817, it became West Milton because of a possible conflict with another town named Milton. The village was incorporated in 1834. Early residents were especially fond of the Cascades, a water fall that is located behind what used to be the West Milton Inn (now a furniture store) at the corner of State Route 571 and State Route 48. West Milton was also home to possibly the first lightning rod manufacturing firm in the country. In the early 1900s, the opening of the traction line (a rail line running to south to Dayton) spurred a new attraction in the village. Overlook Park became a stopping point for visitors, serving as a place for band shows, picnics and holiday excursions.

Casstown CLOSEUP
-click here- Elected Officials Government Museums ... Demographics The High points for the town have come in recent years when Miami East , the school district that Casstown belongs to, has had championship basketball and softball teams. If it weren't for Lewis Cass, the town of "Trimminsberg" might be on the map where Casstown is today. The site for Casstown was surveyed in 1832 and originally it was unofficially named after the surveyor hence, Trimminsberg. But the people of the area had a lot of admiration for Cass, a senator and presidential candidate, so Casstown was named for him. The village's most famous son is poet, historian and author Thomas Harbaugh, who moved to the town as a boy with his family in 1856. Harbaugh's history of Miami County is still on local library shelves, although he probably is best known for the adventure stories he churned out during the late 1800s.
