It is a place with excellent schools, libraries and services where young couples are starting families and where more mature couples are enjoying the peace and serenity of rolling wooded hills. There is a history that reaches back to the first family to settle here, the Gideon Russell family in 1818. The township will pay for the program to continue through October 16, while we investigate other options. Recycling for newspapers, magazines, glass, #1 and #2 plastic, and metal will continue.

PleasantHill CLOSEUP
-click here- Elected Officials Government Museums ... Demographics Pleasant Hill was surveyed in 1843 and incorporated as a village in 1866. The village was once called Newton, but that name eventually transferred to the surrounding township . Pleasant Hill is best known as a home of the Beery School of Horsemanship. The school was founded in 1908 by Jesse Beery, who was famous for his public exhibitions of horse training. Beery's correspondence course for horse training has been used all over the nation and the world.
Local residents are fond of the village for its Civil War monument, perched at the intersection of state routes 48 and 718 in the center of town. Legend has it that the statue faces south probably on the watch to make sure war doesn't break out again. The monument is the inspiration for the annual Old Soldier Festival
The village also is home of the Newton Township ., a center for local activities and well-known for its award winning marching band.

Rolling Hills, green forests, lush valleys and scenic waterways. Scioto County is located in south central Ohio the first region of Ohio to be settled and rich with tradition. Its pioneer heritage has created a strong and proud work ethic among its citizens who are renowned for their honesty and loyalty and also their craftsmanship and professionalism. These proud people consistently turn their productivity into profitability for businesses located within this region. Once a thriving river port and steel town, Portsmouth, the county seat, is revitalizing its economy through technological advances, improved educational opportunities and tourism. State-of-the-art companies in varying industries such as plastics, vinyl windows and welding, are starting to find a home in our rural setting. Companies who have been located here for a long time are finding expansion opportunities, including Sunoco Chemicals (formerly Aristech) and OSCO Industries. Ohio's youngest university, Shawnee State, is expanding quickly. The beautiful campus and excellent degree programs offer students a positive outlook for the future. From breath-taking murals painted on the floodwall to Shawnee State Forest, there are many tourist attractions within the county. A proposed interstate, along with our current air, rail, water and highway transportation networks offer businesses excellent outlets to markets around the world.
