Near the Banks of the Potomac I n 1757, Loudoun County Virginia was carved from the northern portion of Fairfax County . The northern border of Loudoun County and Maryland is formed by the Potomac River and many of the first settlers in Loudoun crossed this river from Maryland . It is here in Loudoun that the McCaffrey name is found on Parish tithable lists from 1767 to 1785. In 1770, James McCaffrey was a tenant farmer near the hamlet of Middleburg, but by 1794 James, or his son, appears to be the owner of this land. Even earlier, in 1766, William McCaffrey is mentioned in the County Court Orders . In 1768, Hugh McCaffrey was living on Goose Creek and was mentioned in an indenture involving William Savage. William Ellzey was a witness to this document. The Ellzeys were rather large land owners and one of the Ellzey daughters was Lydia . In 1771, the list of tithables for Shelburn Parish included James and William McCaffrey, as well as William Bailey. On December 31, 1802

My Great grandfather, James A. McAllister, was born in Marietta, OH (Wash. Co.)in February 1838. His Father was David and Mother Hannah Cramer. James married Mary Noffsinger, and had several children, then married Mary Hannah Carroll (in Illinois), my great grandmother. Both are buried in Crown Hill Cem. in Indianapolis. James was a civil war vet. and is buried in the military section. Mary is thought to be a direct decendant of Charles Carroll of Carrollton who signed the Dec. of Indep.
I've gone as far as I can. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to The USGenWeb Project! We are a group of volunteers working together to provide Internet websites for genealogical research in every county and every state of the United States. This Project is non-commercial and fully committed to free access for everyone. Organization is by county and state, and this website provides you with links to all the state websites which, in turn, provide gateways to the counties. The USGenWeb Project also sponsors important Special Projects at the national level and this website provides an entry point to all of those pages, as well.
Although the basic unit of organization for The USGenWebProject is at the county level, State Websites include very important information as well, including such resources for postings of unknown county queries, family reunion bulletin boards, state histories, and maps showing the changing county boundaries, among others. Many states also have ongoing projects as diverse as the transcription of Civil War regiments or the reuniting of families with lost photos, bibles, etc.
