Operating Support Program
A study conducted for a collaborative of funders of community development corporations, including the Lily Endowment, Pew Charitable Trusts, John D. and Katherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and others , concluded that in cities where there were multi-year, multi-funder operating support programs, CDCs were more productive, better managed, and more effective at revitalizing their neighborhoods. LISC concurs with these findings and believes that an important component of a successful neighborhood revitalization program in Cuyahoga, Mahoning, Stark, Summit, and Trumbull counties is an operating support program that provides multi-year, core operating support grants to CDCs.

Mission Statement 2: Innovative Graduate Programs Ohio University fosters distinctive and creative master's programs that emphasize preparation for further graduate work and provide students with the skills to excel in professional roles. Financial buzzwords are a staple of Joshua Woodby's vernacular. Trading equities. Fixed-income investments. Diversification. Market risk. But the Ohio University graduate student doesn't arbitrarily talk Wall Street. He walks the walk. As CEO of Ohio University's Portfolio Management Group, Woodby and fellow students are responsible for managing a $100,000 stock portfolio with money provided by The Ohio University Foundation. The project, designed to provide real-life investment experience for students, sparked Woodby's interest in investment research as an undergraduate and led him to enroll in a new master's degree track designed for students considering careers in the investment field. The financial economics track, developed in 2000 as part of the master of arts degree in economics, exemplifies Ohio University's commitment to fostering creative and distinctive graduate programs.

Ricketts, Jennifer; Hoelscher-Day, Sharon; Begeman, Gale; Houtkooper, Linda
This study compared an interactive distance-education format and a face-to-face format for providing sports nutrition continuing education workshops for health care and education professionals. A collaborative team of state and county Cooperative Extension and a County Health Department faculty and staff conducted the study using The Winning Edge: Nutrition for Fitness and Sport curriculum. The results indicated that a well-designed distance-education format is as effective and acceptable as a face-to-face format for providing workshops. In addition, responses to 6-month follow-up evaluations indicated that the workshop contents were useful for providing sports nutrition education programs in workshop participants' communities.

mission is to enhance the services and financial practices in Ohio's behavioral health care field. FMG provides a formal structure of networking workshops, seminars and communication in the behavioral health care financial field. WHY FMG? FMG evolved from a market analysis for fiscal management training conducted in 1985 by the Ohio Department of Mental Heath. The demonstrated interest in, and need for, on-going support for financial managers in the behavioral health care field lead to the establishment of FMG. Ohio Commission on Medicaid Reform (OCMR)

When I suggested that we should do an article on the OCMR, I did not realize what a daunting task writing an article on the subject would be. How does one distill months of work by hundreds of people who authored an eighty-six page report in just one or two pages of inForMinG ? Undoubtedly we could dedicate a whole issue of inForMinG to this topic once it starts to move through the legislative process. Let me know what you think about that idea.
Senators Gordon Smith and Jeff Bingaman introduced bipartisan legislation that called for the creation of a Bipartisan Commission on Medicaid and the Medically Underserved. Senators Smith and Bingaman believed that the Medicaid program should undergo a comprehensive and through review of what is and is not working and how to improve service delivery and quality in the most cost effective way possible.
The OCMR was charged with a number of duties, including reviewing and making recommendations with respect to long term goals, populations served, financial sustainability (federal and state responsibility), interaction with Medicare and the uninsured and the quality of care provided.
    The OCMR published recommendations covering:
    Long Term Care
  • Ensure access to a wide array of long-term care service and financing options, in home and community-based settings or in institutions.

Overall, the OSU Student Investment Management Program (SIM) combines traditional academic objectives with the practical demands of hands on investment management. The program offers the university a unique opportunity to deliver high quality practical education in an area of considerable interest to students and employers alike. In the classroom, the students become active portfolio managers of the SIM Portfolio. The students engage in a group decision-making process while gaining real world portfolio management experience. For many students, this is their first exposure to real world portfolio management and, consequently, lays the foundation for their future careers in this field. Outside of the classroom, the Student Investment Management (SIM) Program concentrates on establishing and maintaining ties with the business community, which in turn, creates positive public relations for both the Fisher College of Business and The Ohio State University. The program reaches deep into the financial community and gains access to resources seldom seen in an academic environment. In addition, students often further benefit by gaining a competitive advantage for elite internship and full-time employment opportunities in a variety of financial arenas.
