Lesson Plans and Classroom Activities about Ohio Home State by State Lesson Plans - Alabama Lesson Plans Alaska Lesson Plans Arizona Lesson Plans Arkansas Lesson Plans ... Wyoming Lesson Plans Please note that with regard to lesson plans dealing with anthropology, archaeology, indigenous people, ancient civilizations, history, etc, there may be some cross-over and blurring of lines between the topics. For example, a lesson plan dealing with archaeology is automatically dealing with an anthropological subject. A lesson plan dealing with indigenous people is also automatically dealing with anthropology and any of them may, or may not, be dealing with history or ancient civilizations. While every attempt will be made to keep the topic lines as 'clean' as possible, be aware this may not always be possible. Appropriate grade or age levels are included with the lesson plans. The number of lesson plans available online for this topic is enormous. This site can not and does not index all lesson resources. That would be impossible, as sites appear and disappear with astonishing rapidity. The following provides some idea of what is available and will hopefully be a good starting point. Few universities can match our breadth of academic offerings and related interdisciplinary opportunities, including 176 undergraduate majors, instructional areas, 220 graduate f ields of study, and professional programs. It views itself as a student-centered research university that consistently ranks among the top national public universities for undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs.

Northeast Ohio Clean Cities Coalition Support
State Energy Program (SEP) Special Project, Ohio, 2003 The Earth Day Coalition project will support the Northeast Ohio Clean Fuels Coalition (NEO CFC) activities. The NEO CFC is a program of the Earth Day Coalition, a regional environmental education and advocacy nonprofit organization in Cleveland, Ohio. The Clean Cities coordinator is a full time position, with an office at the Earth Day Coalition. The coordinator position is vital to:
  • Continuing the successful NEO CFC efforts of increasing alternative fuel vehicle awareness and acceptance. Increasing the numbers of alternative fuel vehicles in operation. Increasing the number and variety of fueling stations. Addressing issues of legislation and policy that can negotiate the barriers to alternative fuel use.
  • Continuing to develop the NEO CFC. Continuing to address issues of funding for alternative fuel projects, alternative fuel promotion, and organizational sustainability.
There is already a demonstrated commitment in the region to using alternative fuels. Northeast Ohio has more than 1,800 AFVs and 12 accessible compressed natural gas fueling stations, 12 accessible liquefied natural gas fueling stations, and new biodiesel production for local niche market use.

Columbus, Ohio, USA Technical University Dresden, Germany SYLLABUS Introduction Readings Dresden Part of Course Columbus Part of Course INTRODUCTION The course emphasizes housing issues, especially residential land use and development. Examining the process in a non-American context facilitates the understanding of that process. Seminar Focus Class readings and discussion will revolve around several questions:
  • Is the Americanization of German cities actually happening? What patterns do we see that support this idea? First, we need to define and identify the American pattern, with emphasis on spatial distributions and potential conflicts. Columbus will be our local laboratory, but the patterns are visible in most American metropolitan areas. Do we see these patterns in Germany-specifically in Dresden? What processes led to these patterns? Are they similar or different in the two places? How do they function in each place? What are the social and economic outcomes? What conflicts arise?

    The USGS provides maps, reports, and information to help others meet their needs to manage, develop, and protect America's water, energy, mineral, and land resources. We help find natural resources needed to build tomorrow, and supply scientific understanding needed to help minimize or mitigate the effects of natural hazards and environmental damage caused by human activities. The results of our efforts touch the daily lives of almost every American.
    Index of Subjects
    Much of Ohio's social and economic development has been and continues to be determined by its geologic and water resources. The effects of geologic processes and human activities-floods and droughts, soil erosion and landslides, industry, agriculture, and urbanization-on Ohio's natural resources are important to understand because these processes and activities, to a large degree, affect the health, safety, and well-being of the people; the economy; and the environment of the State. For more than 100 years, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has been and continues to be involved in studies that concern the geology, water resources, and physical features of Ohio. This long-term effort of data collection, data interpretation, and mapping provides natural-resources managers and policymakers with essential earth science information needed to make decisions about Ohio's resources.

    Ohio – A State Unit Study This mini unit on OHIO uses the cross curricular approach to education. There are several activities from different academic subjects for you to choose from. One of the most important things is to have fun! Below are some activities to help you study OHIO. You may choose to do all, some, or none of the activities. You can also alter the activities to better suit your individual child’s needs. Some of these activities overlap each other, choose the one you think that you and the children will enjoy most. The main point of this unit is to make learning about OHIO and enjoyable for all who are participating. Ohio’s State Flag Ohio's state flag was adopted in 1902. The Ohio burgee, as the swallowtail design is properly called, was designed by John Eisemann. The large blue triangle represents Ohio's hills and valleys, and the stripes represent roads and waterways. The 13 stars grouped about the circle represent the original states of the union; the 4 stars added to the peak of the triangle symbolize that Ohio was the 17th state admitted to the union. The white circle with its red center not only represents the "O" in Ohio, but also suggests Ohio's famous nickname, "The Buckeye State." Create a State “Infodesk”: Before you begin this unit you may want to set up a research area. Place a desk or table in front of a bulletin board area. This will be where you can place relevant books, magazines, photographs, posters, newspaper articles, maps, scrapbooks, games, puzzles, computer software, task cards, travel brochures, etc. that you collect.

    special lyrics by Wilbert B. McBride
    Composed by Mary Earl I sailed away;
    Wandered afar;
    Crossed the mighty restless sea;
    Looked for where I ought to be.
    Cities so grand, mountains above,
    Led to this land I love. Chorus Beautiful Ohio, where the golden grain
    Dwarf the lovely flowers in the summer rain. Cities rising high, silhouette the sky. Freedom is supreme in this majestic land; Mighty factories seem to hum in tune, so grand. Beautiful Ohio, thy wonders are in view, Land where my dreams all come true! Original Chorus as written by Ballard MacDonald Drifting with the current down a moonlit stream While above the Heavens in their glory gleam And the stars on high Twinkle in the sky Seeming in a paradise of love divine Dreaming of a pair of eyes that looked in mine Beautiful Ohio, in dreams again I see Visions of what used to be. "Beautiful Ohio" became the state song in 1989. The music was composed by Mary Earl, and the original lyrics were written by Ballard MacDonald. In 1989, the Ohio legislature adopted an amendment to section 5.09 of the Ohio Revised Code that changed the words of the state song. The new lyrics are the work of Youngstown attorney Wilbert McBride. Ohio Revised Code describing the state song: (1989 S 33, eff. 11-6-89; 1989 H 457)
