    46. Developing A School Or District Technology Plan
technology is neither an end in itself nor an addon, notes the office of Create lesson plans that incorporate authentic uses of technology.
    http://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/methods/technlgy/te300.htm
Critical Issue: Developing a School or District Technology Plan
ISSUE: To realize the benefits of technology, schools must develop a plan for integrating technology into the curriculum. An effective technology plan is based on the shared vision of educators, parents, community members, and business leaders who have technological expertise. It ensures that technology strengthens existing curricula and supports meaningful, engaged learning for all students. It also specifies how the technology will be paid for and how its use will be supported. OVERVIEW: Because technology continues to play an important role in modern industrial society, integrating technology into the schools will help prepare students to succeed in a rapidly changing world. "Technology is transforming society, and schools do not have a choice as to whether they will incorporate technology but rather how well they use it to enhance learning" (North Central Regional Educational Laboratory & Illinois State Board of Education, 1995). Technology integration also is important because it supports the goals of education reform . To ensure that technology is effectively integrated into the schools, educators and community members must collaborate to create a formal technology plan. Developing a plan for using technology to support education reform means more than providing for the acquisition of computers and software. To be successful, a technology plan must promote meaningful learning and collaboration, provide for the needed professional development and support, and respond flexibly to change.

      What is NTTI?
NTTI seeks to help teachers give students a cogent view of a world illuminated and highlighted by the effective interactive use of technology. By integrating a variety of media into their curricula, teachers can bring important historical episodes, key scientific concepts, and powerful thematic links to life. The unifying perspective that thematic, interdisciplinary instruction lends to education is essential in bequeathing our students a clear and cohesive understanding of the world they will live in and direct. StreamlineSC allows teachers to download video from the Internet. This is a faster, easier way for teachers to gain access to ETV and ITV offerings.

The Objectives of the SC NTTI
      • To create a network of NTTI participants to serve as mentors in their schools by sharing resources, aiding other teachers through peer support, and spreading the use of instructional television and technology throughout South Carolina.

Loading student information into SchoolNet and customizing the various modules began in January 2004 and was completed by May 2004. Professional development for campus and district personnel on the SchoolNet solution was conducted in June, July, and August 2004, and is currently being sustained. By the 16th week of the school year, approximately 8,000 lesson plans had been authored and banked in SchoolNet, and a majority of the teachers and principals were building custom student performance reports in SchoolNet for parent conferences and academic planning. SchoolNet provided the district with a technological solution to satisfy the following curriculum audit standards:
    • Standard 1: School system is able to demonstrate internal control of resources, programs, and personnel. Standard 2: School system has established clear and valid objectives for students.
