INTRODUCING TOLES - TEST OF LEGAL ENGLISH SKILLS EXAMINATIONS
TOLES means "Test of Legal English Skills". The TOLES examinations were developed to meet the demand from law firms, companies, legal institutions, lawyers and law students for an accurate method of assessing an individual's legal English. TOLES has been developed by legal professionals with expertise in English language training. It is the result of extensive consultation with law firms and institutions and is regularly revised to reflect the on-going changes that occur within the legal profession.
    What are the TOLES exams?
There are 2 TOLES exams - TOLES Advanced and TOLES Foundation. The tests allow lawyers and law students to prove their ability to cope with everyday practical tasks in English when working in a legal office or studying in the law faculty of a UK or US university. For this reason, the exams are very practical in nature and are tests of knowledge of up-to-date legal English. They are not exams in English or American law. The language and terminology tested by TOLES reflect international commercial transactions in today's global market.
    TOLES ADVANCED EXAMINATION
    TOLES FOUNDATION EXAMINATION
This was formerly known as the TOLES exam, but to distinguish between the TOLES Foundation and this much higher level paper it has been renamed the TOLES Advanced exam. This exam is suitable for students who have taken a legal English course and have a reasonable level of general English. It is also suitable for lawyers who have experience in working with legal documents written in English. The results accurately measure an individual's true legal English skills.
