Internship Web Sites Marine Biology is the study of the living resources of the world's oceans and coastal seas. In tropical regions, shallow water environments support rich and diverse biological communities. These include coral reefs, mangrove and sea grass habitats. Training in Marine Biology is central to the study of these diverse assemblages of plants and animals and is the key to understanding their relationships and evaluating human influence on marine ecosystems. back to the top Related Career Titles *Agronomist *Environmental Engineer *Marine/Fisheries Worker *Animal Scientist *Environmental Protection Worker *Marine Geologist *Aquaculture Farmer *Ergonomist *Marine Sales *Aqua culturist *Fish Hatchery Technician *Marine Tourist Worker *Fisheries Conservationist *Merchant Marine *Aquatic biologist *Fishing Captain *Water Transportation Worker *Barrier Beach Manager *Forester *Microbiologist *Bio-Engineer *Genetic Engineering Research Asst.

Dear Oceanography Society Members: We are very happy to announce that a long term agreement has been reached by ASLO, AGU and TOS that will provide for a joint co-sponsored Ocean Sciences Meeting during even years, beginning in 2006. It represents a cooperative effort that will help unify the ocean sciences and related communities, thus furthering interdisciplinary research and cooperation. The Ocean Sciences Meeting will cover the spectrum of marine studies including, research, technology, engineering, industry, public policy and education. Development of the scientific program is the responsibility of the Program Committee, which will include members from each society and will change from meeting to meeting. Members of the ocean sciences community are encouraged to submit proposals for special sessions approximately nine months prior to the Ocean Sciences Meeting. Exploring the natural world through Art and Imagination Art has become one of our most valuable tools for information, inspiration, and creativity. The Wyland Ocean Challenge “Clean Water for the 21st Century” is a nationwide classroom program that uses an art-based, interdisciplinary approach to environmental education and conservation. Developed by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD) and marine life artist Wyland, the program integrates easily into primary school science units through:
    • Free Downloadable Teacher’s Activities • Live Community Learning Events Look for Wyland Ocean Challenge art, science, and community conservation events across the nation. In summer 2005, a 12-city coastal education and cleanup tour will take place from Alaska to La Paz, Mexico, in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation and the American Zoo and Aquarium Association. The tour will include a life-size watershed maze, art activities, and science experiments for the entire family. A mid-west tour is planned for 2006. • Nationwide Art Contest As part of the Wyland Ocean Challenge, art contests are regularly held to promote self-expression and a greater appreciation for the natural world.

    The Oceanography Society was founded in 1988 to disseminate knowledge of oceanography and its application through research and education, to promote communication among oceanographers, and to provide a constituency for consensus-building across all the disciplines of the field. To accomplish these goals we:
    • publish Oceanography , a magazine that promotes and chronicles all aspects of ocean science and its applications;
    • hold meetings to disseminate knowledge and promote communication among oceanographers; and
    • give awards in recognition of distinguished research in and contributions to oceanography.
    The Oceanography Society is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization incorporated in the District of Columbia.

They serve to make sites visually attractive, to assist in site navigation, and to create logical content divisions. Backgrounds and emblems provide unifying themes. Web design for the artistically challenged may therefore pose new problems for librarian Web creators. Surfing the Internet for images can be a time-consuming activity. The quality and relevance of many graphics archives is questionable. The following are sites that have good design standards and many freely accessible images. Thematic image collections
