  • a 40-45 minute presentation about Japan and its unique history and culture. a display of Japanese arts and crafts, illustrating the dedication and craftsmanship of Japanese artisans.
The presentation is visual and informative and enhances student awareness and insight into Japan. The presentation is more relevant for the middle grades from a curriculum perspective, but it provides an interesting and informative overview for all students interested in learning about Japan. A maximum of 60-75 students is preferred (2-3 classes), which will allow more interaction by the students. The cost is $175 per presentation, which includes travel, hotel, meal costs, etc.

Nunavut Territory Classroom Presentation
The map of Canada changed on April 1st, 1999, for the first time in 50 years, with the addition of our new Nunavut Territory. The Northwest Territories has been halved and the Inuit of the Eastern Arctic now have their own territory … Nunavut. I worked as Economic Development Officer for the Government of the NWT for ten years and still work 4-5 months a year in Nunavut. I will be traveling to schools in your area in 2003/2004, and am available to deliver this visual and informative presentation about the Inuit and Nunavut Territory to interested schools/classes. Presentation includes the following:
  • 40-45 minute presentation about Nunavut and the Arctic, followed by a 15-20 minute question and answer session. (total presentation is 50-70 min) a display of beautiful Inuit arts and crafts, soapstone carvings and traditional items.
The presentation is entertaining and informative, with some beautiful arctic slides, and a fascinating display of Inuit arts and crafts items, and is suitable for Grades 1–12. I have found that a maximum of 3-4 classes (75-100 students) works best and allows more interaction by the students. I have delivered in excess of 500 presentations to schools in Western Canada, and all classes have found it highly informative and relevant to the curriculum.

4.0 IMPACT OF COURT STRUCTURE, GEOGRAPHY, AND CULTURE ON LEGAL SERVICES DEMAND, PATTERN, AND QUALITY
The demand for legal services, the pattern of service delivery, and the quality of services provided in the northern jurisdictions are affected by a number of different factors, including court structure, geography, and culture. In this section, the commonalities and differences among the jurisdictions are explored with respect to geography and culture. The impacts of court structure are discussed in Section 5.0 (Circuit courts) and Section 7.0 (Justice of the Peace courts). At the end of the section, in 4.3, a table is provided that summarizes the key areas of unmet need resulting from these factors.

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
    Introduction
Justice Canada commissioned three studies into legal service provision in Northern Canada, one each in the Northwest Territories (N.W.T.), Nunavut, and the Yukon, which were carried out between March and August 2002. The studies examined ten issues:
    • The impact of court structure, geography, and culture on the demand for legal services, pattern of service delivery, and quality of services.
The impact of circuit courts on clients.
      The increased role of Courtworkers.
Unmet needs for legal representation in Justice of the Peace courts.
Unmet needs in family and other civil matters.
Unmet needs prior to first appearance or first instance. The interplay between the criminal and civil sphere in the generation of legal needs. Public legal education and information (PLEI) needs.
