INTRODUCTION
Imagine the wonders of nature. You are just a pile of matter held together in mysterious ways. Nuclear energy at the atomic level and in Applied Science are at the foundations of life as we know it. This assignment provides the opportunity for you to explore many aspects of nuclear energy and to draw some conclusions about it. At the conclusion of this assignment you will have an understanding of nuclear energy and how the principles or nuclear energy are applied. You will be able to recognize and define terms associated with nuclear energy. For more about the assignment, proceed to Tasks

TASKS (THEME)
For the duration of this project you and your partner are to assume that you are advertising executives for a magazine, a T.V. station, a nuclear power plant, or a scientific research company. You have been asked to develop a promotional campaign for one of the topics listed below. You can use your imagination to "set the scene" but all of the content must be factual. Some example scenarios are:
    • a T.V. station is showing a documentary and you need to make a commercial to attract viewers

Statements of the Director General
International Conference on Nuclear Power for the 21 st Century
Nuclear Power: Preparing for the Future
by IAEA Director General Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei
It is a pleasure for me to address this conference on nuclear power for the 21 st Century. Today I will discuss a few aspects of the evolving global scenario for nuclear power. All indicators show that an increased level of emphasis on subjects such as fast growing energy demands, security of energy supply, and the risk of climate change are driving a re-consideration, in some quarters, of the need for greater investment in nuclear power. The decisions that emerge from this debate will have long range implications, and require a degree of planning that looks at least several decades into the future. This morning I would like to offer a brief review of the current picture, and to outline a number of issues that, in my view, will be crucial in determining the contribution of nuclear power to the future global energy mix. The Global Energy Imbalance Contrast that with France, where per capita consumption is over 7300 kilowatt-hours per year — a factor of 100 times greater — slightly less than the OECD average of 8000 kilowatt hours per year, and well below the consumption rates, for example, in Scandinavian countries.
