Connected to the rest of Canada by just a 28 kilometer/17 mile wide isthmus, you can expect to find everything 7400 kilometers/4630 miles of ever-changing continuous coastline would suggest. From spectacular beaches to rugged shores to craggy cliffs, the ebb and tide of the Atlantic Ocean dominates our scenery and way of life. But there is much more. Nova Scotia is a land of beautiful lakes, rolling farmland and breath-taking highlands. Many of our highways and byways take advantage of the scenery as do thousands of properties. With tiny villages, picturesque towns and urban centers, Nova Scotia offers a truly diverse landscape.

Nova Scotia is a province of rolling hills, flowing rivers and sharp cliffs. This province’s landscape and climate, has often been compared to that of Scotland. How fitting that Nova Scotia is in fact Latin for New Scotland!
Take a look at some of the facts about our land, sea and seasons. Geography Nova Scotia is 55,000 square kilometres in size.
    • Our province is connected to the province of New Brunswick and the rest of Canada, by the 28 kilometre Isthmus of Chignecto. The Canso Causeway joins Cape Breton Island with mainland Nova Scotia. Nova Scotia’s coastline, if you stretched it out as far as it would go, is 7,400 kilometres in length. But the overall length of the province is actually only 575 kilometres. The average width is 130 kilometres. The highest point in Nova Scotia is at White Hill Lake in Victoria County, and is part of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. It stands 530 metres above sea level.

Nova Scotia Nova Scotia is perfect vacation country. There are ten scenic trails to follow throughout the province and each offers unique sights and sounds. Only a couple have been briefly touched on below. The Evangeline Trail follows the along the Bay of Fundy, known for the highest tides in the world. Watch whales from Briar Island at the farthest point of the Digby Neck. Take a tour through the Annapolis Valley where the fertile farmlands produce delicious fruits and vegetables and many spin off industries such as soap making. The earliest inhabitants of Nova Scotia were the Mi'kmaq Indians. Their history tells of a magical Indian named Glooscap that could control the tides in the Bay of Fundy. The Glooscap Trail offers visions of nature at it's most pristine and beautiful. The cliffs near Parsboro are striking - look around and find some more history in the plentiful rocks and fossils.
