    Geography
One of the Maritime Provinces , Nova Scotia comprises a mainland peninsula and, across the Canso Strait, the adjacent Cape Breton Island . It is bounded on the N by the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Northumberland Strait, across which lies Prince Edward Island; on the E and S by the Atlantic Ocean; and on the W by New Brunswick, from which it is largely separated by the Bay of Fundy but to which the Chignecto Isthmus connects it. The climate is moderate and rainfall abundant. The east coast is rocky, with numerous bays and coves, and is dotted with many charming fishing villages. Off the beautiful south shore is Sable Island, called the graveyard of the Atlantic for its many shipwrecks; on the west coast huge Fundy tides wash the shores, extending into the Minas Basin and the Annapolis River estuary. Annapolis Royal , site of the first permanent Canadian settlement (Port-Royal, 1610). Cape Breton Island (est. 1936) and Kejimkujik (est. 1968) national parks are in Nova Scotia. Abundant game, all types of fishing, and some of the best sailing on the continent attract visitors. The capital and largest city is

Nova Scotia Geography- Nova Scotia is located at the far southeast edge of Canada, separated from the American state of Maine by the Bay of Fundy. Glancing at a map you might think it's an island, but the province is actually a peninsula, connected to the province of New Brunswick by the 17-mi-/27-km-wide Isthmus of Chignecto. To the north is the Gulf of St. Lawrence and to the east is the Atlantic Ocean. The terrain ranges from rolling hills and mountains to fairly level farmland. There are excellent beaches, rugged coastlines, lakes, rivers and forests. No spot is more than 35 mi/55 km from the sea. The province includes Cape Breton Island, which is connected to Nova Scotia by the Canso Causeway. Search for Accomodations in these Nova Scotia Cities Halifax Sydney

A province of eastern Canada comprising a mainland peninsula and the adjacent Cape Breton Island. It joined the confederation in 1867. The first successful settlement was made by the French at Port Royal (now Annapolis Royal) in 1610. France and Great Britain bitterly contested the area, part of Acadia, until 1763, when the Treaty of Paris awarded the French possessions in North America to the British. During the 18th century many Scots immigrated to the region, leading to its name, a Latinized version of “New Scotland.” Halifax is the capital and the largest city. Population: 937,000. The Bay of Fundy is a globally significant ecosystem. It is the nursery for the rarest of the world's great whales, the North Atlantic Right Whale; the most important migratory feeding area for shorebirds in eastern North America; and it is the summer feeding ground for all American shad spawned in rivers from Florida to Labrador. Captain Joshua Slocum, the first man to sail alone around the world was born in Westport on Brier Island, Nova Scotia. He sailed around the world in his 37-foot sloop "Spray" departing from Boston in April 1895 and arriving home in June 1898, landing in Newport, Rhode Island. The "fossil cliffs" at Joggins washed by the world famous tides of the Bay of Fundy were formed during a critical juncture in Earth history called the Triassic-Jurassic boundary. Each year the tides of Fundy expose a new layer of sediments and, with them, new fossils which may ultimately provide the answers to some of our most perplexing questions about the rise and fall of dinosaurs and the emergence of mammals.
