About First Air
Company History
Charter Services Pilot training and small aircraft, local charter work were the backbone of the company's operations until the mid-fifties. The advent of the DEW line (Distant Early Warning line) construction program brought about the first major sortie into expanded operations. During 1954-1956 four Cessna 180s were engaged in the Northwest Territories (NT) for charter and aerial survey for the DEW line construction contractors. This was just the beginning of an expansion program which has seen the company become the foremost Arctic air carrier in the world. In 1958 the company began regular operations in the High Arctic Islands in support of the Geological Survey of Canada using Piper Super Cubs on tundra tires which were especially engineered by First Air personnel. During 1958-1968 charter operations in the Arctic Islands continued to grow and expand. Larger aircraft such as Beavers and single-engined Otters were used for this unique requirement. Scientific and government agencies engaged in exploration, survey and mapping were the first major customers to use this service.

The Back River volcanic complex represents an Archean volcanic centre located in the eastern Slave Province, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Detailed structural analysis of the metavolcanic Back Group and conformably overlying Beechey Lake Group metasedimentary succession has identified four generations of ductile structures, which are the products of three Archean deformations (D -D ). The oldest structures (D ) comprise horizontally plunging, upright to overturned F folds and axial planar S slaty cleavage. These structures are overprinted by tight to isoclinal, strongly asymmetrical F folds and S axial planar foliations. The steep plunge of F

http://www.railamerica.com/history.htm
When RailAmerica was formed in 1986, the Company was operating in an environment where exceptional growth opportunities had evolved for those in the short line railroad industry, brought about by the passage of the Staggers Rail Act of 1980. This Act gave the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) the authority to exempt certain transactions from regulation and streamlined procedures involved with the purchase and sale of rail properties. Consequently, RailAmerica's initial strategy was directed at the acquisition and operation of short line and regional railroads. The first two such lines, the Huron and Eastern Railway Company and the Saginaw Valley Railroad Company, were acquired in 1986 and 1991, respectively. In November of 1992, RailAmerica had its initial public offering and was listed on the NASDAQ, thus setting the foundation for greater expansion of the company. Its third railroad, the South Central Tennessee Railroad, was acquired in February of 1994 and included 50 miles of rail line. In early 1997, RailAmerica acquired its first railroad outside of the U.S. with the purchase of the 1,400-mile Chilean railroad, Ferronor. Ferronor operates the only north-south railroad in Northern Chile, extending from LaCalera near Santiago to its northern terminus at Iquique, approximately 120 miles south of Peru.

UOA History 40 Years of Caring
DECADE OF THE 1960s Much of the groundwork for the unification of the United Ostomy Association began as early as 1949, when ostomy patients began to meet together for support. The first recognized ostomy group began with patients from the Veterans Hospital, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. By 1950, the Los Angeles chapter was formed, and in 1956 representatives from local ostomy groups met in New York City, and unification was discussed. These representatives met again in 1960, and a steering committee was formed to start unification. The Steering Committee met one year later in Detroit, Michigan, to set plans for the constituting convention. In September 1962, in the English Room of the Pick Carter Hotel, 100 ostomates from 24 groups met in Cleveland, Ohio, for the Constituting Convention. At this convention, bylaws were approved; officers and directors were elected; the need for a national publication was identified; the Sam Dubin Award was established; and dues were set at 50 cents per member. (Dues were waived for the first year.) The charter deadline was set for four months for other existing groups, and by that deadline, 28 groups had affiliated.

If You Are Not From BC
I'm seeing a lot of searches in the logs that are for information I never pulled together, such as the names of various provincial/territorial officials not in BC. If you need to know those kinds of details about a province or territory other than BC, scroll down till you see the entries with little maps. The thumbnail maps will each open a bigger map. Below them are little flags, which link to pages maintained by some arm of the feds, and which give a short history and description of that province or territory. Under the flags is the name of the province/territory, and that name links to its own website. Between these three, you should be able to get close to the information you need. If you're a student, good luck on your papers, and remember to cite your sources.
