ROBERT JOHNSON. When I started putting out a newsletter for supporters of disabled people, my thoughts were first that I would find and report on significant facts relating to the broad population and second that Robert was just one in millions, but I could share most of his experiences and I would report them to provide an example to others. Some of his current efforts are reflected in letters from the publisher of WHO'S WHO IN THE MIDWEST VICTOR BISHOP. He is now Associate Editor. In our next issue we will feature his biographical sketch, and with the sketch there will be his Email address. He will be handling our Email and Internet activities. He has a Web Site and has in mind printing growth curves for children and infants with Down syndrome. He has a one-year old son named Emmanuel, who has DS, and is photogenic.

Planning for the future of disabled students after high school may take Best Practice Update, “Transition in north dakota,” Volume I, September 2000.
http://www.nessasiegel.com/kerry0304.html
Post-Secondary Transition Planning: A Critical IEP Component IDEA clearly notes that at a minimum, transition plans should be developed on a yearly basis, beginning, at the very latest, when a student turns 16 years of age. The importance of continuous transition planning stems from the knowledge that proper planning cannot be achieved in 1 year, but rather must occur over numerous years and be based on a continuous comparison from one year to the next. 20 U.S.C. 1414(d)(1)(A)(vii).

Sielke, John Dayton, C. Thomas Holmes and Anne L. Jefferson Public School Finance Programs of the United States and Canada 1998-99 , National Center for Education Statistics, 2001. STATE COMMENTS Alabama Alabama does not provide general state aid to private schools. Two types of exceptions, however, do exist. (1) Alabama does provide, through separate appropriations bills, state aid to two private military academies; and (2) Alabama does provide small grants to several private schools and agencies offering services to exceptional children and to mentally disabled citizens. Neither of these categories is considered in the general state aid for public education. Alaska No program of state aid for nonpublic schools. Some districts allow nonpublic students to participate in certain public school activities at the discretion of local school boards. Arizona None Arkansas None California None Colorado None Connecticut Local districts must offer same health services to nonprofit, nonpublic school children as are available to children in public schools provided the majority of children in nonpublic school are state residents. State reimburses eligible school district expenses based on relative town wealth. Towns that provide services to more than 1,500 nonpublic students who are not residents of that town and towns where the number of children receiving AFDC services is greater than 1% of the total population are entitled to 80% reimbursement.
