Have you used one or more of these studies as an advocate for school libraries and librarians? If so, we would appreciate hearing from you in a short survey. It's about time we find out what sort of impact this research itself has had. Click here to fill out the School Library Studies Outcomes Survey

http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/admin/techplan/techpl07.html
WS/FCS District Technology Plan 2001-2005 Resources Other sections: Committee Members Introduction Instruction Staff Development ... Technology Standards Current Situation Issues involving communication and access to the time and assistance of system-level technology personnel enter into this scenario. System-level personnel are serving a large number of schools and some individual schools do not have a full-time Tier I person who has the time or opportunity to make the necessary contacts to review possible purchases in a timely manner or to provide the support needed for implementation. The majority of the technology resources that are located at the schools are housed in the Media Centers and circulated from there. Since our schools are networked, many resources are available over the LAN. Some software that is curriculum specific is purchased and housed in individual classrooms; however, this situation sometimes leads to duplication of resources and is discouraged. Another problem we are currently experiencing it the number of Media Centers that are operating with old versions of software. Only 18 of the media centers have been upgraded to the Windows version of the software that is used for automation. The older software that is in place in the remaining media centers is limited and subject to obsolescence since it is a DOS-based piece. The schools that have not been upgraded are unable to do so because they do not have the newer hardware that would be necessary to run the Windows version or the money to purchase the necessary software upgrade.

These school positions should be of interest because you don't need to be school certified to be eligible for them. There is a real shortage of certified school librarians in NC, and there is a program called "lateral entry." You get paid full pay, including credit for years of experience as a librarian, but you have to work toward certification at your own expense at the pace of 6 credits per year. Many of the schools here are on year round calendars, which means you get 3 weeks off out of every 12.
