Aberdeen - old nursing home - it's an abandoned nursing home that is closed off by woods. there are time you go in and a chair will move from a room out into the hall way. As you walk down the hall being quiet, you can hear grunts and moaning of older people. the building beside it burned which was where they kept the healthy patients. Everything burnt except the devil signs. If you were to go into the building that still stands to this day you will see needles with dried up blood in them. there is also a sign posted on the wall in front of the desk that says hair cuts on Tuesday and sometimes it says on wed. People have said that they seen bedroom slippers on one of the beds they ran out and when they went back in they seen blood coming out from under the door. The blood stains still remain. People have tried to go and remodel it but something keeps chasing them off.
Angier - Coats Park - At the park in Coats. There is this trail. If you walk down this trail, there is some kind of being that chases you. And if you camp there, there is a place that if you put something there such as a tent, and try to sleep your tent will be moved out of the way by morning. Its called " The Devils Stomping Grounds"

announced the signing of 24 players in his 2005 recruiting class
NC State head coach Chuck Amato announced the signing of 24 players in his 2005 recruiting class. The Wolfpack bolstered its front lines on both sides of the ball, inking seven offensive linemen and seven defensive linemen. The class is also spotlighted by 10 players who prepped in the state of North Carolina. "We are very excited about this year's class," said Amato. "We feel that we have really solidified our offensive and defensive lines and have also added some very talented skill players. I've always said that we need to build a fence around this state and keep our players at home, and we feel very good about signing 10 young men from North Carolina." The class, which includes one player who has already enrolled at NC State, three junior college players and a transfer, is a large one. Thirteen players are listed as 6'4 or taller and eight weigh in at 280 or more.

Organization
The companies which would eventually compose the 26th North Carolina State Troops were recruited shortly after the spring planting for 1861 was done. The men came from the mountains and western piedmont of the Old North State. These men were not recruited for any specific regiment, but rather as independent companies, who were brought to Raleigh to train and prepare for war. While the men were at North Carolina's Camp of Instruction at Camp Crabtree, (later renamed Camp Carolina) three miles from Raleigh, the Confederates fought the Battle of First Manassas on July 21, 1861 and their was concern the war would end in Confederate independence before they could see the elephant. Their fears and hopes were unfounded. It was at Camp Crabtree that the men first met North Carolina's boy wonder, Henry King Burgwyn, Jr., called Harry. The 18-year old Harry already held the rank of Major in the Confederate Army. Burgwyn was familiar with the basic principles of military operations due to eduction at the United States Military Academy and the Virginia Military Institute. Burgwyn was very adept at the manual of arms and incurred the anger of many members of the regiment by his heavy handed discipline during the time spent at the Camp of Instruction. John Randolph Lane related his first impressions of Burgwyn: We [Company G] took the train at Company Shops (now Burlington) for Raleigh; arriving at this place, the company marched out to Camp Crab Tree, a Camp of Instruction, and were assigned our position in camp a little after dark. On the next morning when we awoke, we saw the sentiels at their posts and realized that we were indeed in the war. Immediately after roll callbut there was no roll call in our companyMajor H. K. Burgwyn, commander of the Camp of Instruction, sent down to Captain W. S. McLean, demanding the reason for failure to report his company.

They have just added a few more people, a little noise, extra traffic every now and then and a lot of patriotism. Occasionally, residents express concern about low-flying aircraft, the noise caused by a night-training flight or the increased traffic on the roads, but overall the military bases are excellent neighbors. They provide employment and income and contribute to the community through uncountable volunteer hours. Military personnel often volunteer to tutor students, clear and construct school athletic fields, help nonprofit groups with projects, and raise funds for holiday programs. We're glad to have them in Carteret and Craven counties. Of the surrounding bases, the Marine Corps Air Station base at Cherry Point in Havelock has the greatest impact on the Crystal Coast. One of the most valuable assets is the base's Naval Aviation Depot (NADEP). Of about 4,000 NADEP employees, 1,329 live in Carteret County. NADEP pays more than $275 million in salaries annually, $90 million of that to Carteret County residents. See the

Press Release WALNUT COVE COLORED SCHOOL, INC.
    WINS NATIONAL PRESERVATION AWARD
    Revitalization Breathes New Life into
N.C. Community Treasure (Washington, D.C., October 18, 2000) - No one would guess that Walnut Cove Colored School, an 80-year-old building in Walnut Cove, N.C., and a new-found focal point of community activity, was once a dilapidated eyesore frequented by drug addicts and vagrants. Now a senior citizens center, the once-abandoned school is a thriving epicenter of community activity.
TheBuilding Before Restoration The National Trust today announced it will recognize the project with a 2000 National Preservation Honor Award. National Trust President Richard Moe will present the award on Thursday, Nov. 2, during the National Trust's National Preservation Conference in Los Angeles. "Walnut Cove Colored School, Inc., is truly a source of inspiration to rural towns across the nation," Moe said. "Though the school fell into disrepair, it was restored as the vital link to the community that it once was. The building's successful revitalization demonstrates that a community treasure can come full circle."
After Restoration The five-room school building was constructed in 1921 with help from the Rosenwald Fund. Established by Booker T. Washington of the Tuskegee Institute and Sears Roebuck president Julius Rosenwald, the fund contributed to the construction of 4,977 schools in 15 southern states between 1918 and 1930. Fewer than 40 of North Carolina's 813 such structures remain. Rosenwald schools had a major impact on the education of black youths in the rural South, stressing the importance of education in the face of Jim Crow legislation.

Since the first Military Leadership Academy in 2001, Freedom Alliance has hosted ten Academies on military bases across the country and taught hundreds of students the core principles of leadership. Today, while some Academy graduates are pursuing careers in medicine, law and education, others have chosen to continue their leadership training by serving in the military.
The purpose of the Military Leadership Academy is to transform young people into leaders. We do this by introducing them to positive role models and military leaders, teaching them leadership skills, and encouraging them to believe in their own potential. The program seeks to: 1. Introduce students to the United States military, its way of life and method of developing leaders.
