Dick Boyd, Former Board member, dies Our Mission To protect the life, health and property of the public through examination of applicants, education of licensees and discipline of individuals to promote quality electrical contracting in accordance with North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 87-Article 4. Our Organization The State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors is the State agency responsible for the administration and regulation of electrical contracting within the State of North Carolina. The Board reviews applications, administers examinations, certifies qualified individuals, issues licenses, and regulates persons engaging in electrical contracting within the State. The Board is composed of seven members who serve staggered seven-year terms. The members consist of one member from the North Carolina Department of Insurance designated by the Commissioner of Insurance; one electrical contractor member representative of the North Carolina Association of Electrical Contractors designated by the governing body of that organization; and five members appointed by the Governor: one from the faculty of The Greater University of North Carolina who teaches or does research in the field of electrical engineering, one who is serving as a chief electrical inspector of a municipality or county in North Carolina, one electrical contractor member representative of the Carolinas Electrical Contractors Association, and two public members.

    National Weather Association (NWA) SOL HIRSCH EDUCATION FUND GRANTS
    Five or more $500 grants are available annually from the NWA for teachers in grades K-12 to improve the education of their students in Meteorology. Applications are due by 1 August each year. The NWA Education Committee needs help from all members to spread the word to teachers in grades K-12 that $500 grants are available annually from the NWA to help improve the education of their students in meteorology. The teachers selected will be able to use the funds to take an accredited course in atmospheric sciences, attend a relevant workshop or conference, or purchase scientific materials or equipment for the classroom. Five grants or more are possible each year thanks to the many members who have contributed to this fund in honor of Sol Hirsch who retired in 1992 after being the NWA Executive Director for 11 years. Completed applications are due to the Education Committee by 1 August each year. To Apply for the NWA Sol Hirsch Education Fund Grants Teachers, program directors, school district supervisors and other individuals or groups proposing to improve the education of K-12 students in meteorology may submit an application. The application will consist of a NWA cover form and a two-page proposal.

Agencies are mandated to protect and advocate for the rights of people with mental illnesses and to investigate reports of abuse and neglect in facilities that care for or treat individuals with mental illnesses. These facilities, which may be public or private, include hospitals, nursing homes, community facilities, board and care homes, homeless shelters, jails, and prisons. Agencies provide advocacy services or conduct investigations to address issues that arise during transportation or admission to such facilities, during residency in them, or within 90 days after discharge from them.
