Nixon worked on his family's lemon farm and in their general store and gas station. He attended local public schools and Whittier College, went to Duke University Law School on a scholarship and placed third in his graduating class. His Presidency: Under Nixon's administration, there was a cease-fire agreement with Vietnam. Nixon began the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks with the Soviet Union. The Watergate controversy led to his resignation, but he was granted "a full, complete and absolute pardon." He was later known as an expert in international affairs. His Life: Reconciliation was the first goal set by President Richard M. Nixon. The Nation was painfully divided, with turbulence in the cities and war overseas. During his Presidency, Nixon succeeded in ending American fighting in Viet Nam and improving relations with the U.S.S.R. and China. But the Watergate scandal brought fresh divisions to the country and ultimately led to his resignation.

Perhaps best known for faking the Moon landing , 37th US President Richard Milhouse Nixon died on April 22, 1994. He left behind him an astonishing range of sins: Alcoholism, pill popping, wife beating, perpetuating the Vietnam War , and calling Helen Gahagan Douglas a filthy lesbian. Tricky Dicky's ultimate crime was confirming the suspicions of an entire generation of fuckoffs that they, in fact, were the chosen people of their place and time. The results may be seen in the merciless attacks on the human spirit masquerading as '60s nostalgia, ridiculous cam girls indulging in astrology , and the otherwise unexplained persistence of adulation for Creedence Clearwater Revival Made two visits to China to meet Mao . Appointed Elvis a secret special agent of some sort. According to convicted Watergate criminal John W. Dean, Nixon wanted to firebomb the Brookings Institute think tank, because they had possession of certain unspecified, but apparently important documents. Yes, firebomb. Pardoned Jimmy Hoffa on December 23, 1971.

Born on January 9, 1913, in Yorba Linda, California, into a lower-middle-class Quaker family, Richard Nixon had a difficult childhood. In school he was an ambitious student, but not one who excelled. Upon graduation, he entered Whittier College. Nixon graduated second in his class and won a scholarship to Duke University law school, where he graduated third in his class. He returned to California and took a job at a law firm in Whittier. Nixon served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, Nixon ran successfully for Congress. He quickly distinguished himself as one of Congress' most fervent anti-communists, leading the charge against accused spy Alger Hiss. In 1950, Nixon was elected to the Senate. He was picked as a running mate in 1952 by Republican presidential candidate Dwight Eisenhower . As vice president, he took an active interest in national security affairs. In 1960, Nixon waged a vigorous campaign for the presidency, losing to Democrat John F. Kennedy in the closest presidential race in U.S. history. Perhaps more bitter was his defeat in the 1962 California gubernatorial campaign. He declared his withdrawal from politics, but instead built a strong national political base which, in 1968, enabled him to win the White House.

The president broke the news of his resignation in a television broadcast from the White House on Thursday at 2100 local time. It will take effect from noon tomorrow. Mr Nixon, 61, said initially he had believed it was his duty to complete his term of office despite the Watergate charges. Richard Nixon Resignation Speech August 8, 1974 Good evening. T his is the 37th time I have spoken to you from this office, where so many decisions have been made that shaped the history of this Nation. Each time I have done so to discuss with you some matter than I believe affected the national interest. In all the decisions I have made in my public life, I have always tried to do what was best for the Nation. Throughout the long and difficult period of Watergate, I have felt it was my duty to persevere, to make every possible effort to complete the term of office to which you elected me. In the past few days, however, it has become evident to me that I no longer have a strong enough political base in the Congress to justify continuing that effort. As long as there was such a base, I felt strongly that it was necessary to see the constitutional process through to its conclusion, that to do otherwise would be unfaithful to the spirit of that deliberately difficult process and a dangerously destabilizing precedent for the future. RICHARD NIXON U.S. President Richard Nixon resigned as U.S. president in 1974, becoming the first president ever to quit the office. Nixon was a lawyer and Republican politician who held the posts of U.S. representative (1947-51), senator (1951-53), vice president (1953-61), and finally president of the United States (1969-74). As a fiercely anti-communist senator from California, Nixon was pegged to be Dwight Eisenhower 's running mate in 1952, despite Nixon's relative youth: he was 39 when nominated. Eisenhower beat the Democratic nominee Adlai Stevenson in both 1952 and 1956 and Nixon served both terms as vice president. In 1960 Nixon was the Republican candidate against John F. Kennedy in what became one of the closest elections in U.S. history. Defeated by Kennedy, he returned to California and ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1962. (After the loss he made his famous bitter farewell to the press, saying "You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore.") In a dramatic comeback, Nixon defeated Hubert H. Humphrey

in full RICHARD MILHOUS NIXON (b. Jan. 9, 1913, Yorba Linda, Calif., U.S.d. April 22, 1994, New York, N.Y.), 37th president of the United States (1969-74), who, faced with almost certain impeachment, became the first U.S. president to resign from office. He also was vice president (1953-61) under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The son of a grocer, Nixon graduated from Whittier (Calif.) College in 1934 and from Duke University Law School, Durham, N.C., in 1937. He entered law practice in Whittier in 1937 and served briefly in the Office of Price Administration in Washington, D.C., soon after the outbreak of World War II. In August 1942 he joined the navy and served as an aviation ground officer in the Pacific. Following his return to civilian life in California, he was twice elected to the U.S. House of Representatives (1947, 1949). During this period, Nixon served on the House Un-American Activities Committee, taking a leading role in the investigation of Alger Hiss, a former State Department official who had been accused of spying for the Soviet Union. In 1950 Nixon was elected to the U.S. Senate after a campaign in which he claimed his opponent had communist sympathies; Nixon's reputation as an anticommunist made him a desirable running mate for Eisenhower in the 1952 campaign, which emphasized that issue. Nixon served two terms as vice president under Eisenhower. He was narrowly defeated by the Democrat John F. Kennedy in the 1960 presidential election, and after losing the California gubernatorial election in 1962, Nixon announced his retirement from politics and moved to New York City to practice law.
